so update of today.
After checking up the hands, I am going for remplacement. The oxidation went too far and it does not match the light ageing of the dial.

Bummer. Now I am delayed 2 weeks for the hands to arrive

what baffles me is how the seconds hands reacted totally differently.
I will probably keep the seconds hand, but the two others are horrid.

Do you think there's some alloys in there that weren't meant to be?

I think it's a combo.

I put the oxidizing mix in a steam tub to heat it. I am guessing water condensed into the mix and the lime deposited. Then the minute hand skeleton was so fine that the corrosion broke it.

So, this was an expensive learning experience 😅. Good thing is that NH35 broad arrow hands are relatively easy to find. I don't care much about lume matching, so there is that.

Plus this one is made to be a keeper that I will tinker over time

Live and learn - if anyone is going to do it well, it's you. Fair play!

Ok, as @316lad said....never go to your bench "after dinner"

I used the bezel removal tool for the first time today on the SanMartin case...and misaligned the case...
Result, two very deep gouges in the lugs... the kind of gouges you cannot sand out. 😵

On the positive front, I was hesitating between NOS or aged...The choice sort of made itself now 🥲

Also, after popping off the crystal and bezel, I made a major mistake in the crystal measure.
It needs a 33.9mm armoured crystal.
So at this point, I am going to simplify down this build, and keep the sapphire crystal.
I will see how it looks and decide if I go further later this year.

Hands should arrive this week.

Adding two things

1.
the SM tube is 2.5 pendant so that's cool as standard Omega.
However, the crown is 6.5mm.
A 6.8 or a 7.0 will not fit as it hits the bezel

2.
I would not recommend the San Martin as a base for a CK2914. The crystal setup kills it. There is an inverted L ridge where the sapphire crystal sits. So if you put an acrylic armored inside the rehaut, the L ridge is visible and the bezel sorts of hangs in the air 🙁

I will still try again when I have the right crystal size

I would recommend the SM though to do the 2914 Heritage modern release

Definitely no "after Dinner" at the bench. We all have to learn the hard way. I utterly destroyed a Balance Spring last time.

"After breakfast" everythings fair game though . . .

Correct. Two teeth sheered off the Crown Wheel on Manual Winding.

And boy, oh boy did you those two teeth have themselves a party on their way though the Motion Works . . .

Intermediate Wheel and Automatic Ratchet Wheel both eaten.

Ok I assembled it to see what happens.

the dial is too thick and the stem is out of alignment

the 6mm crown I found is too thick too, which breaks the proportion

if i want to have an armoured acrylic crystal I will need to have a custom bezel, and this opens another can of worms

That said, what a handsome watch 😍
