Lets see them ?so update of today.
After checking up the hands, I am going for remplacement. The oxidation went too far and it does not match the light ageing of the dial.
Bummer. Now I am delayed 2 weeks for the hands to arrive
Do you think there's some alloys in there that weren't meant to be?what baffles me is how the seconds hands reacted totally differently.
I will probably keep the seconds hand, but the two others are horrid.
Live and learn - if anyone is going to do it well, it's you. Fair play!I think it's a combo.
I put the oxidizing mix in a steam tub to heat it. I am guessing water condensed into the mix and the lime deposited. Then the minute hand skeleton was so fine that the corrosion broke it.
So, this was an expensive learning experience . Good thing is that NH35 broad arrow hands are relatively easy to find. I don't care much about lume matching, so there is that.
Plus this one is made to be a keeper that I will tinker over time
Definitely no "after Dinner" at the bench. We all have to learn the hard way. I utterly destroyed a Balance Spring last time.Ok, as @316lad said....never go to your bench "after dinner"
I used the bezel removal tool for the first time today on the SanMartin case...and misaligned the case...
Result, two very deep gouges in the lugs... the kind of gouges you cannot sand out.
On the positive front, I was hesitating between NOS or aged...The choice sort of made itself now
Also, after popping off the crystal and bezel, I made a major mistake in the crystal measure.
It needs a 33.9mm armoured crystal.
So at this point, I am going to simplify down this build, and keep the sapphire crystal.
I will see how it looks and decide if I go further later this year.
Hands should arrive this week.
I see some missing teeth.Definitely no "after Dinner" at the bench. We all have to learn the hard way. I utterly destroyed a Balance Spring last time.
"After breakfast" everythings fair game though . . .
Deconstructed Raffles 1016 today and a prize to whoever spots the problem with the movement and why it's had to come apart.
Yep. Over half a century later and the Ratchet Wheel is still made of Swiss cheese.Classic 2824 disease
