So mine came in today. Needless to say I am really not happy. The platinum mode looks good except 1 marker. But the back and sides and center are silver. I have no idea why it is like that. I think when it is in the bezel you will be able to see the silver edges. Not happy.

So why is it on the back and sides? I am pretty sure the Gen one doesn't look like that. I haven't taken the one out of my Gen, but the sides don't look silver on it.
Maybe when you put the ceramic insert on the bezel this silver details are not noticeable.
If so, i would use a black pencil to make this sides black.

For $280 I don't think I should be using a black Pen or marker on the Bezel insert. And when the black pen/marker starts wearing off it will look purple.
Have you tried the insert on the bezel to see if it is noticeable?

Interesting..has anybody else gotten one lile this? Have you contacted OP? Maybe there is a way to remove the coatimg or worse case hit it with a couple coats of black sharpie..The outwr edge should bw hidden but thw inner edge needs to be black cause you might see somethimg thru the xtal...i would have to believe a permanant sharpie would do the job worse case...

I think the whole thing is PVD'd and then removed from the surface leaving it only in the cuts. It looks like you got an incomplete clean up job. It can probably be removed with some very fine grit wet sanding.

Steve just got back to me. He said it can be removed with polishing compound.
I don't know if anyone else has ever worked with PVD, but I have other things PVDed and it will not come off with polishing compound. So why would this PVD come off with polishing compound.
Paint will come off with polishing compound. I am starting to wonder. But now after I just wasted $280 I am going to start to do some testing myself to see what takes this off. It better be hard to get off because if it comes off easy- it is not PVD. That means he is charging $195 for his "PVD" mod compared to smokes mod that is only about $40. This better be PVD, but rest assured I will get to the bottom of this and report back to everyone.

I have a feeling I know what he is doing. I am going to do some simple testing to see. It better not be what I think it is. But one thing for sure-
