Just curious if anyone's been scoping out the differences between gen and the rep?
I've gotten to the point where I can easily spot whether a watch is a rep or a gen based on a few details but wondering if I missed anything.
What tells/details are you using? Here are the 3 that have been working for me.
I generally use the lume color as a tell, as the blue is much darker on the gen.
I also use the lettering and logo on the dial which is thicker on the vsf version. But this is only noticible when there is a gen close by. I don't know if I would say "that's too bold" without something to compare it to.
And one big tell is the date window. The date wheel on gen must be finished the same way as the dial.
On both versions (gen and vsf), at different angles, the dial has a different look whether it is flat black or metallic black or matte. On the gen the color or finish of the datewheel is the same as the dial. Whatever angle the dial is facing, the datewheel has those same properties on the gen. whereas on the rep, it's just a black datewheel. It is the same as the dial at 1 angle but at others, it is different so it sticks out.
Here are some of the details I mentioned and some others worth checking out imo. I have these collages for just about every mm of the watch so of you'd like to see anything specific let me know.
