People shouldn't only look at the prices. You have to keep the added value (service, support, Customs seizure 'insurance' etc.) in mind. Yes, it's not perfect. It's not Amazon. But it's a lot more than ordering a watch from a WeChat dealer....

Yep, though I think I should add that I don’t find these less well known dealers on WeChat shady or anything. They’re usually perfectly nice people open to helping source stuff etc, it’s just that their business is geared toward the domestic market, so we as international customers simply can’t expect them to offer insurance on shipping, easy payment, English communication etc. it’s not priced into their business model.

Anyway back to the topic at hand. I heard CF and Dandong are safe, and apparently ZF has paid the “fine”, but from what I’ve heard AF is gone and the GF boss is still in jail.

Anyone give any idea why this sudden crackdown is happening? Feels worse than what happened to noob, in some ways.

Lol well I agree with you there. What's funny too is that tool isn't even working properly, it should be done like this because of the skew (like you said the watch isn't flat):

Which shows the watch isn't misaligned, at least not badly. The right edge of the 40 marker and the left edge of the 10 marker appear to be perfectly parallel with each other, and the lines I drew are perfectly parallel, which would mean they're aligned properly. The OP is also gambling that the crystal isn't skewing anything either (which if the watch is at an angle, it would be).

Yeah I'm really curious why they can't just bribe the local police. I assume they do, but they get busted eventually anyways. I'm sure it has to do with pressure from Rolex and other swiss brands, and the increased quality from reps in the past few years. If the quality gets too good, which honestly the clone 3285 and the clone 4130 are too good, they'll have to crack down on it.

What they're doing wrong is they should be comparing the marker to the opposite marker, not all the markers together. The watch isn't flat, so you can't really just draw a + on it and expect it to line up. If you compare the individual markers like I did (40 vs the 10), you can see they are aligned with each other.

If we look at the 5 marker which was OPs biggest issue, we can see there's not actually an issue there:

Photoshop tells me the angle difference between those two lines is 0.2. 119.7 vs 119.9. So yeah ,like the 5 marker is tilted left less than half a degree, assuming the photo isn't lying to us anyways, a bit absurd to RL it lmao.

And if we look at it from a realistic distance:

There's no way you can tell me that you can see those are misaligned.

Alright, so again I'm telling you guys its the market at 1 which is visually sticking out and bothering me, I don't care about perfect allignment but when something is sticking out and bothering me, combined with the suspicions of there being dust under the glass I felt the need to at least see another sample.

And can you explain how this method of boxing around the markers is more accurate than a line in between? With the line you just check if it enters the marker in the center and leaves trough the center.

I am particularly bummed about AF, as they made my faves and I had a couple more I was ready to buy from them this month. What typically happens after a factory gets raided? Are they gone forever? Do they lay low for a while and come back after a few months?

Some never recover and some come back….. but slowly. VSF were the most recent example back a couple of years ago of what seemed at the time to be a complete shutdown. In time they scrambled back and also kept their identity and what seems their supply chain. It became so well documented that we even had M2M sales listing items as “pre raid” on the assumption that anything produced before the raid was somehow of better quality ….

Noob suffered the worst fate… complete shutdown and the bosses in jail, almost exactly what will likely happen to GF now methinks.

Many others have splintered and restarted under different names in potentially different premises. The biggest issue isn’t just the factory raids, it worse when the actual material suppliers feel threatened and go even further underground. When this happens, it makes no difference if the factory is raided or not, once the supply stops there isn’t anything to make watches from.

Im hoping this blows over like it normally does with as little collateral damage as possible. We’ve lost some great factories over the years and I hope GF and AF somehow recover.
