Mauricio is right on the Hoi An part. I prefer the tailors in Hoi An over the ones in Bangkok. But I wouldn't bother buying any mid-range suits in either of those places, maybe only top range bespoke in Bangkok. Nobody does any real bespoke in Hoi An as far as I know. Only in Hanoi I saw a few companies that match the level of stuff I wear (used to full-canvas Italian tailoring like Zegna and Corneliani) starting at a nice mid-range 200 US price range. If you want to get that quality in Europa at that price month, you should go to Suit Supply. It's made in China, but the company behind it is Dutch and is quite hardcore when it comes to quality, both in fabrics as well as constructions. The ready-to-wear (RTW) stuff is top level half-canvas and blows away any mid-range Hoi An or Bangkok suit. The fabrics are often overstock runs from Italian factories or top-notch Chinese and it's hard to find anything near that in South-East Asia. If you want to be sure to get decent quality fabrics in SE-Asia, you need to buy from someone that imports, and the guy needs to be reliable (many fake fabrics).

Nara at BKK is the best imho, pristine tailoring and service. Only downside is that you need a good 1-2 weeks for the tailor to nail down your fit. But once made, no adjustments needed. Ever.

Visited M&M and MT today. Not impressed.

Lady at M&M showed me a couple of "high quality" Explorer I's that were anything but (e.g. too large, low-beat, gappy SELs, and one of the movements busted as I was adjusting the time). She then told me my Pam 111v3 was low quality because she could see blue AR coating (really, lady? I'm sure you were instructed to use that line but at least assume I know the color of my own damn watch). Then she attempted to sell me a Tudor BB with a bad pearl and shiny(!) bezel (decent lume though) for a mere 12000 baht (340 usd). Through miscommunication I was shown some really bad Cartiers (including a diver with a crown that didn't screw down). I was then informed that the only Speedmasters they had were quartz. I walked away at that point.

MT wasn't much better, although they get points for not insulting my watch as part of a sales pitch. They didn't have anything I was looking for (Exp I, Omega PO, any Tudor or IWC) but I looked at a Sub out of curiosity. Date font was wrong, pearl was bad, and that's all I bothered to check. Some poor sap bought an AP 15400 the size of a U-Boat (his wife was saying something about getting a good deal for a Swiss movement). Also saw a fantasy Breitling chrono that was just wrong all over.

Have to say I came away disappointed. Thought I'd at least see some decent, if overpriced, reps. Tempted to say that I've seen better on Canal Street. The rep clothing didn't seem much better. Saw some horrific Moncler and Canada Goose coats (even talked a random guy out of buying one because the quality was that piss-poor).

tl;dr - Bangkok is great, just not for reps. Ymmv.

Unlikely. The Thais will find a way around it. The laws work very differently there

That will last 2 weeks to one month, if it even happens at all. This is Thailand we are talking about. If you want to understand how the law works in Thailand, take on board that it is the prostitution capital of the world, then look at the law and realise that Prostitution is actually illegal!

Yep... Very different as compared to other places. Not that I'm complaining. The Thais are a bunch of nice people. Very helpful.

You two are lucky guys
I absolutely love this country and will be coming back with my girl on 2nd September. First 2 days BKK and then Samui, Phangan and Tao. Last year we were on the andaman see side. Can't get enough of the lifestyle, the food, beaches, buzzling BKK, north side like Chiang Mai and so on..
And one further fun parameter is of course shopping reps :punk: Just love it! Although the quality of the reps is not 100% of the watches from our TD's, it's good enough for the price and it's soooooo much fun running through MBK, Patpong or Night Markets on the Islands, drinking a beer and shopping reps!

there are far more things to do in thailand than simply rep watches.. the people are what drives me there often, things get real easy if you are able to speak a basic level of thai... far friendlier, truly a land of smiles

Currently in BKK now. I totally forgot about MBW/Nembo. Hopefully I can make my way to MBK.
