BTW, does you factory rep bracelet suck as much as mine?

it just feels cheap.. tried to take some links off but apparently thats impossible. lol

i just tossed it in a box and put a old leather strap on it.
thinkin of gettin a black kevlar strap with white stitching.
or maybe go all NASA and get a black velcro NATO.

Im not sure if I can comment on bracelet quality across versions but I like mine - it might feel a bit light and cheap, but whenever I wear it on the bracelet it feels really toolwatch-y and a bit old school - makes me think of an astronaut wearing his while working under his corvette back in the day :)

I got a black croc strap to dress it up, and it really does - I'd wear it with a dinner suit (if I ever needed to wear a dinner suit), but I like it as a sporty, tool-y, beater that just happens to be an awesome piece of mechanics / history :)

Those pics on TynoPrime's sale thread on the NATO got me thinking too :) - Im keen for a black and a grey

Yea. Mines ok I guess it's just light. Has no weight to it really. Maybe I've been spoiled by the PO bracelet and the rolex SELs. I never bothered with it but yea. Im leaning twds a Kevlar with white stitch. Now to decide if I want NATO or regular straps. I gotta admit tho. The rubber omega straps do look good

Ok. Who's got the part num for the plexi for this model?
I think I'm gonna take the plunge.

Do they all fit?
Mines apparently 40mm.

Is this it?

Omega Crystal 063PW5173 - PLEXIGLASS ARMED BLACK RING TACHYMETRE

Hey Mate - pretty much all the answers are actually in this thread, go back to post #312 (page 32 for me at least) and read from there for the more recent history. (You'll see me asking all the same questions :) )

In regards to the plexi, the gen plexi fits in the Ruby version that is discussed heavily in this thread (the one I have that I posted a pic of), I dont know if yours differs in plexi diameter though

The gen plexi part number is...

Ofrei if you're US based, cousinsuk if you're UK/eur.

Part number is PW5139

hrmm yea.. thats what im worried about. the plexi not fitting.

maybe ill just freeze the 6 and call it a day.

i figured id mod since i have to replace one of the retainer clips on the pushers.
gotta take the movement out and tinker anyway. may as well do everything at once.

btw, for those of you here who like to tinker and have a tendency to break or lose stuff like i do..
if you ever take the chrono pushers out on these watches. they are held in by tiny little E Clips.

if youve ever tried to put on of these back on, youd know this is almost a impossible task and you will more than likely lose it.

if you do lose it, hit me up. after a few days of scouring the web, ive found someone who sells the little clips.
i didnt wanna post a link bc hes not a TD on here or anything. hes some guy i found on the seiko forums and sells these in 4 packs.

they look like this

316S2k1MF6L._SL500_SS100_.jpg

but are TINY. less than a mm.
they go flying across the room if you try to grab them with tweezers.
if you ever have to take these off or put them back on, i recommend working in a plastic bag.

the one on my reset pusher was very loose and with a light tug on the reset pusher, it fell off and went in to the movement and stopped the watch.
finally was able to get it out but it went flying across the room when i tried to put it back on.

take a look at your speedys and make sure the little retainer clip is on there tight!

if its loose, take the movement out, push the pusher in and squeeze the open end together with a pair of needle nose pliers.
believe me, you do not want those little clips off the pusher and in the movement.

if you do happen to lose the clip though, taking one of the tiny o rings off the pusher (they have 2) and putting it where the clip was will prevent the pusher from falling out.
its a short term solution though.

yea. i found 1 listing on ebay but i wasnt exactly sure what the size was.
they have .8mm. min order is like 10 or something. with shipping from UK, it ended up being quite a bit.
plus, the ones i found on ebay were black. i needed ss colored ones :D

that fitting tool is ridiculous. i figure i have 4 coming. if i cant get it in 3 trys, im taking it to a watchsmith.

i did go buy a very fine tipped needle nose plier.. i think that should do the trick.

question to thoe speedy modders.

is gluing the 6 sub dial really needed? removing the gear would stop the hand from moving right?
i think the glue is in case the hand slips or something?

wouldnt a little piece of tape or something do the trick?

i think im gonna freeze my shadow dial but id like the mod to be reverseable if needed.. the gluing part kinda scares me.

any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Hey guys.

Just finished reading all of this- my eyes hurt!

Anyway, Let's say you were planning to do a proper franken. Gen movement, gen dial, gen hands etc. and you need a correct case. By that I mean, gen crystal, case back and movement ring fit right in (and the soft iron inner case cover no one talks about).

Anyway, if you were that guy, which watch would you want as a base? Note just about everything attached tpo the case will be sold/scrapped (maybe I'd keep the bracelet), but the case needs to be good. In other words, an economical alternative to a $1500.00 gen case. The "ruby" version may be what I want/need, but I'm honestly not sure, and I've never seen that description for the moon watch at a TD before. I see gen crystals have been fitted, as well as gen case backs, but was it the same model watch and if so, which one? Outside dimensions (taking down crownguards) are not an issue for me. I've done several Rolex crown guard mods so far.

Thanks!

you cant make a cheap franken of this.
the only way to be able to use the gen dial is really to get a gen movement or a lemania equivalent which isnt cheap.
the reps dont have the same sub dial spacing

take a look at mr.paps franken build of this thing. i mean.. its pretty much made up of gen parts. just sourced separately.

if you just want to add a gen crystal to a rep watch, youll want the ruby version.

Hello BC.

If that reply was directed to me specifically then you did not read my post completely.

I am am simply trying to determine which rep has the best (closest to gen mechanically) case. The other parts will be gen so dial spacing etc does not matter. If the case inside dimensions are not correct, there is no point buying the watch. Other details of the rep are irrelevant because those parts will be sold/scrapped.

Assuming the "ruby" case is the answer, can you provide a link or better description so I could check it out?

thank you!

mechanically, i think theyre both the same.
they both come with the Seagull St19 movements.
great movements and prob one of the best youre gonna get in the rep world.

case wise, the only difference is the "ruby" version is slightly fatter around the crown/pushers making them slightly larger.

i think they both will take gen plexi but out of the box, i think the other version has the better crystal.
the ruby version does have the better dial though. idk. i like the "swirls". mine doesnt have that. its just slightly recessed.

ruby version also has the silver rehaut which i think makes the watch look bad.

if i could pick and choose, id go with the version i have with the ruby dial.

Does anyone know which watches come with the signed bridge on the ST19, and from which TD? As I've been browsing I've noticed that the Apollo has the engraved movement on Puretime, but not from toro.

It's not likely any rep speedy will come with the signed bridge ,as far as I know they are not being made any more.(despite pics on TD's web sites)

I guess that makes it easier for me, then. Don't have to go searching for a mystical unicorn watch that doesn't exist anymore.
