I've had both and aside from the logo you won't notice a difference. The heights and shape are almost identical. However, the Sternkreuz is available in different sizes so it will fit the rep better whereas the gen is only one size (and more expensive).

Thanks five, and just to clarify, the sternkreuz with the same profile as gen is the "High dome without step HW" correct?

I did end up ordering the ST19 handwind speedy from hont, transaction has been perfect as expected from the many positive reviews here. He even sent me some more QC pics when I had a query about some parts of the watch. Here's some of what he sent me:

Looking at picking one of these guys up. How much does Hont offer them for? I see trevor has them for 200USD?

Trevors isn't the best version available. Hont, WatchInternational (where I got mine) and trustytime all sell the "Ruby" version which is I think accepted as the best version available. It's $248 from WatchInternational, $268 from trustytime and Hont is $230 I believe but make sure it's the same watch as the above pictures with the accent over the tachymetre and crown guards.

Ah ok perfect thanks. I just took a quick look at it last time and they looked to be the same watch. Is that the 42mm version?

This seems like a stupid question, but I've never decased a movement with chrono function.

Do you have to remove the pushers to release the movement? It seems like they block it from coming out?

No need to remove pushers, just lift up the opposite side of the movement and slide it out,it's fairly tight on a st19.
Reverse to put back in.

So the gen plexi clips in with a small amount of force; great news!

Has anyone managed to get the tension ring in with it installed? It seems far too tight, may have to file a tint bit off one end to make it a little looser.

Sorry if its been covered but could I get a confirmation on the Sternkreuz replacement plexi

Im actually just squirreling this info away for when I can justify another watch purchase (which will be the ST-19 42mm version from Hont, WI, or trustytime discussed a couple of pages ago), but Ive absorbed that I'll want to replace the crystal with a Sternkreuz "High dome without step HW"

Where exactly does one get this, ebay? Ive seen some on there but not with that exact wording... I notice they have part numbers, do we know which part number is the one for us? - http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&rt=nc&_nkw=Sternkreuz+High+dome

What does the HW stand for?

Thanks for the help, I just need to lay low for a couple of months (just got a PAM196 for christmas) and then to the moon I will go :)

I'd go with the new ST-19 version. They have really improved the engravings on the movement.

You either want the 34.0 sternkreuz high dome without step, or the Gen plexi fits perfectly, pushes in with little force and looks quite different to the sternkreuz actually (I have both in my hand, and swapping them over they look quite different (where the "image" starts distorting, where the straight edge starts curving etc)

i would recommend gen, as it's only cheap $35 or so. Over the sternkreuz which is $3. But your call.

Thanks Tyno. Sounds like going gen is worthwhile for the money - where does one get one of those?

Thats a gen movement buddy.

Oh. Thanks.

Egg on my face. I dont know how I missed that with such a good photo and all. ;)

Im in Australia so I guess I'll check them both out when the time comes. Thanks again.

braith7 I'm very interested on how your mod goes as I'm thinking of doing it myself to my st19 speedmaster too. I got mine from hont.
