That's exactly what I did to mine last time. If you want to try, don't overspray the clear red, it'll make it look "wet" and that's not desirable. Spray from a good distance, from left direction to right. I used Tamiya silver back then and the result is nice, not as metallic as the gen but it's acceptable. I guess if you use a chrome paint, it'll be better.
As for the text, I didn't mask it since the bg red would be different than the rest. So I used a water slide decal as a temporary solution. Mikey2008 on RG now has found the guy who can cleanly pad print the text.
The clear coat is only to protect the paint underneath. It doesn't make the the paint uniform.

This thread is just amazing! What do you think about the movement on the full FC? I thought it would be almost identical to the gen (more like I wished) so the DW would be placed lower etc...
I am this close to purchase but am really holding back after reading all the comments and hate lol. I know it will not be close to Zorro's but hopefully a mod or two would make it at least wearable?
Btw, would the rubber strap fit the Bumblebee?

Nope!
Plus the GP's don't come on Rubber, they come on Leather.
And if you're referring to the rubber strap from Forged Carbon 44 you just mentioned above - no that will not fit either!!

Full FC is the hardest to Rep
The Plati, J12 managed to fail with the anodized affect on the Dial
The Goldie should be the easiest as it has a black dial, but you should really lower your expectations...

The movement does look pretty nice, especially when the rotor was spinning around, at 2:45!!

Looks pretty damn good to me. I can live with an $800 rep not being absolutely identical to a $40'000 gen, or even a $3000 Franken.
