How can it be done then zorro, what is the best method?

i don't understand why there is a lot of hate for this watch already, it's an improvement on the noob version in many ways as mentioned and yes there is the dial issue and the tachy but we all expected that anyway. I think people have been spoilt by seeing zorro's builds and thinking jf would get close to that level of detail. It's not going to happen zorro spent years on his project to get his gp's the way they are.

i hope the plates are not stuck together though as this will make it harder to service. I think a new crystal with double AR would set it off.

i have the TI Schumacher which I brought from guru which has the new crystal and its stunning. The Schumacher has a similar flaw with the dial colour but everyone still loves it.

i want to see the video of the watch and then some wrist shots and I will definitely be buying.

Schumacher is much easier to live with as it's just the wrong shade of grey on tachy and dial being used... But gp is completely different kinda beast.. So many colour and effects to achieve to get it gen close.. Only way really to understand what all the drama around the gp is..... First see the gen... Only then will it be completely evident why the dial is so important and tachy and sub dials.... Good luck!

Yes I've never seen the gen gp I must admit and never will. Jf were never going to get the colours right were they its too complicated by the sounds of it.

What a great sounding voice :) I have tired that.. But nicked plated the part first then applied the same paint in the spray can version.. Looks great but still not close to gen effect and colour.. But a nice option

Z,
Do you think instead of nickel plating the dial if we spray it with chrome spray pain then coat it with clear red. We can get closer result?

Also will masking the raised logo portion after removing the metal logo help?
Then after anodizing is done. Spray a coat of clear coat to get a uniform finish?

Gentlemen, let me chime in with my poor 0.02$:

we argue on a possible mod with additional costs and effort BEFORE the watch is really released ... why can we not just judge with our wallets and pass on this one? There has been lots of time to do it right, there have been lots of members in the know who helped, pointed the necessary mods, ... it only required an open eye and ear!

What have we got now? Same procedure as last years, same procedure as every year :(

Now let´s stop to ask Zorro what is a possible method to get this right, the factory should have done better and ALL would have been happy ... the 99%-to-gen-Zorro-customers and the 90%-to-gen-standard-buyers.

rant over .. don´t flame me.

If I had the all the factory resources would be easy to get the gp gen close like the Schumacher.. Which is very close part from the grey!! If your going the modding route on a personal level it's just trail and error.. Or if like me ... Be prepared with very deep pockets and perseverance to achieve your goal!

I'll have to wait and see how it turns out when some of us actually gets hands on it. Wristy speaks more than a lot of those TD photos. We all know that TD's are notoriously bad at correctly representing the actual look of the watches they sell.

However, I can't help with my first impression... it's disgusting... especially the 'urine yellow' tech ring..

I think now we can better wait for a movement plating on already good repped models than buy a GP as modding will at least for me not be easy. I will wait for a re-release of a standard 44mm FC, Ti Schumi, and maybe some other FC watch that comes out. No GP for me at the moment. If somebody else wants to make money then buy up some GP, mod them and sell them here as I am very interested as i don't know how to maintain the pad printed AP audemars piguet text on the dial while anodizing the dial. I think zorro must now been overloaded with these pms

Wouldn't go that far mate but I'm not blown away by it either..
Besides, the Platinum GP is the one that's grown on more more than the FC version, that looks a lot better (well to me) than the FC version..
+ I havfe too many black/FC watches already!

I think I'm going your direction too.

BB I have is good enough to satisfy my FC thirst and the Plat GP looks like almost on par with the quality of the Schumi series.

Besides, puretine listed the FCGP for $848. I might as well save $50 and go for the platinum.

Or a further $10 and get it from Ryan....

I thought the same bcoz it looks good but then again, it's called the Platinum GP but it's not Platinum.... I've always been particular about exact materials, so they all have a downside somehow besides obviously, the fact they are reps .... On the FC version, you can always change the dial and all the other details if you get your hands on them but on the Platinum version the case will always be that case (Stainless steel) as it's an expensive material ...

The only solution to the FC version which I doubt but know everyone will be happy with , is if someone with this skill (we already know a handful) who can do it and could charge us slightly more than those they've assisted in the past. I think that's fair, besides sharing is caring folks :giggle: ain't no such thing as exclusivity in the rep world as with time if not now will eventually get updated... OR by a miracle JF call back everything and at least re do that dial :waiting:

I have ordered the full carbon. If it is a top-tier build (like Schumi, LeBron) I will keep it. If not I will sell it. Spot on color accuracy doesn't bother me. No one carries swatches around in their pocket.

Well, AP modders on the forums are much more advanced these days than a few years ago, and they possess CAD skills, manufacturing options, and knowledge, which some (Steve Lee etc.) will share. My bet is that those who want to modify their GPs will find a solution faster and at lower cost than those before them. You will also learn alot about your watch in the process and get to enjoy every incremental step on its way to perfect replication. For those who want a watch that is ready to wear out of the box, though, buying either JF GP is kind of a tough decision, and I can understand the hesitation and to-and-fro-ing here on the forums, with some of the biggest power shoppers here stepping back from their planned FC GP purchases. Nevertheless, I am fairly positive about the future.
