Well well, that is some beautiful work
THX, feeling produktiv & honored… But still a long way to go with a lot of booby-traps…
Even they are manufactured in France, they are very rare in Europe, been trying to find one for ages
catched two of them (a straight mechanic one & a motorized one) for really a penny! …& found some authentic Rolex-fonts for my casebacks, too!

I believe this is New Hermes but newer, they changed the name to Gravograph.
Would this be usable for watchcases?
@newest dude on the forum

This (Gravograph IM2) is exactly the one, I use with 5/8" condensed fonts for the serials with a diamond tip! The Gravograph IM3 (the electric one) runs fine on the casebacks with bigger fonts... Ans BTW: Hermes and Gravograph are the same (as I figured out, they just used "Hermes" as a brand name in US...

Also found this one, a bit older - would this one have any significant disadvantages against the other one I posted?

Yeah, that should do it. You'll just need a jig to hold the case properly

From my perspective: This is the right one, because of the rotating 360 degree jig... They never get old & you'll get every single sparepart, if needed... I made the piece you commented with exactly this one ...

Gravograph on it's way to me

Congrats, mate! Welcome to the dark side!

Don't know, what mastercopies/fonts you bought in! But a few suggestions for your shopping-list (just not to grow frustrated):

- 2 new diamond engraving stitches (3,17x28mm, 90deg, flattened)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/3914066381...a=1&pg=2351460&_trksid=p2351460.c100667.m2042

- Mastercopies/fonts in 5/8' size (because the machine goes down to 1/7 & you won't go small enough with bigger fonts between the lugs)

Have fun

@brekker0 thanks for the tips!
The jeweler I bought it from sold me these two sets of letters based on what I told him I needed. Everything is in metric system here so will look into it.

Very nice. @newest dude on the forum engraved my 6610 lugs, I'm still looking for someone who is able to do the inside caseback sometime.
Just my humble opinion, but having used both the drag engraver and the laser and saltwater etching processes, I think the case back would be VERY difficult to do with the drag engraver.

The different fonts used and the fact that some of the writing is on an arc would make things very difficult to line up properly. It's doable, obviously, because Rolex did it at one time, but to do it one-off would be a challenge.

Since the inside case back is only visible to a watchmaker, who wouldn't be fooled once the case back was open anyway (a NH or ETA or even 31XX looks nothing like a 15XX movement), I'd think a "less than perfect" inside case back would be more than acceptable, and there's some decent templates to use in the saltwater engraving thread that would work.

Now for something like a Tudor case back, engraved on the outside, it would probably be worth the trouble to use the drag engraver.
