Explorer looks and feels way bigger than a 41mm Sub.

Really ?? They seem quite similar… maybe because of the white dial and stainless steel bezel … it can look bigger but in the end it’s not too much bigger than a 41mm Subs..

Dial is bigger, luggs are longer, xtal is bigger. White color makes the watch look even more bigger. Its a total different watch in looks and wear in my opinion.

I made the same consideration… and plus with GMF you have the best overall quality feeling .. I mean look at the case ..bracelet ..clasp.. hands set..

This is good to know. Think I will go GMF for overall quality. I have found many gen crowns, but swapping out the GMF crown is a simple process? Or I would assume simple for a watch repair shop no?

Yes GMF is the way to go... and I believe swapping the crown is somehow easy if you have the right amount of expertise and good tools...

Someone posted in this Thread that gen crown does not fit the gmf tube. Maybe a smaller vsf crown will fit the gmf tube. Also the clasp of my GMF is the worst clasp i have on my reps….

But, its a great watch and its a rep, so i don’t care if the clasp has minor defects, as nobody will see them when i wear the watch…

Yeah, the genuine explorer crown doesn't fit the tube on the GMF v5.

They used a smaller diameter tube...


And yes a DJ41 crown does fit... BUT it looks way too small. And looks more off than the bigger crown on the GMF.


I would be curious to see if the gen explorer case tube would fit the GMF.

Thanks for clarification on the gen crowns…still will probably pull the trigger on the better overall watch and deal with the bigger crown. As always, the photos emphasize what is probably not a big concern anyway.

Other than getting the black dial, I will have both eventually as well.
Question regarding the Lume. I am truly amazed at VSF's lume on the sub. I can always tell the time, from when I first go to bed, until when I get up while still dark, glows like a champ.
How does the Lume on the GMF hold up overnight?
I'm still amazed I decided to get the Explorer II, unsure if I'll like it as much as the Sub.
