In other words, thanks for the additional inspiration. It looks great in person, and my hand also doesn't look 100 years old. 2 bonuses!

Thanks to @aphmars13 and @janneau , I decided to switch out my dial to a glossier one, and test the nail brushes for a slightly more uniform texture (but still leaving it pretty crappy). Just wanted to add some more shades without ruining the lume.
After messing up the keyless, I decided the lume was just too uneven. I tried to add a little extra to smooth it out, and while I was at it, I also switched out the minute hand for one that actually resembled a vintage one better.

I'm finally happy with it, but of course, now I think I lost its water resistance. Visually, I'm 98% of what I wanted, but I'm noticing excess dust inside the crystal, and then another rabbit hole exists...

Hopefully, I can get it back to waterproof and give it a good few months of wear and tear before I continue taking it apart.

Just waiting on a new crystal.

I tried making an original style lume pip by filling the hole with epoxy, then drilling a tiny hole in the middle and packing it with lume powder then using a nail-dotting tool to apply a blob of epoxy over the to to seal it in.

Had a spare NH dial and thought I'd do something different with a white dial. Shame about the date wheel position on the NH34s really. Any overlay more than paper-thin seems to catch on the bottom of the dial, and a spacer makes the GMT hand too close to the dial face and it ends up hooking up on the indicies/lume.

I thought, what if another late-50s airline also gave their pilots GMTs?
They'd probably want them to be different enough to the Pan Am ones, so I put their logo on the dial, changed the color of the GMT hand and insert.

How much is the diameter of NH dial , 29mm ? Would they fit a 1675 Raffle case , even though this one mounts a 27.3 dial ?? Would it be necessary to reduce the diameter ?

I think the stem height on NH movements would be a problem for the Raffles 1675 case as the NH ones are around the same height ast the ETA 2824s and the Raffles cases are for DG3804s and 2836 GMT.
I used a DG2813 movement in an NH34 case for the 6205 build I did, but I had to remove the datewheel so I could fit the dial flush to the movement without a spacer to get the stem to line up.
With the plastic movement holder that comes attached to NHs, the diameter is 29.2. Without it it's 27.2, but the movement ring also acts as a dial-spacer (like on the Miyota 8215) so the datewheel can move freely.

I have had this idea for a minuite but wanted to see what some of the dial makers in here think about it.

raffles now offers sterile dials. My thought is to buy a few of them. do some tropical air brush work on the dial and then apply a modified decal dial over top of the air brush work to create a unique tropical dial

Some of you have been following my thread on tropical dials and the main issue I have , even with using candy paints is that it is difficult to do without overspray on the text.

example of my tropical dial air brush work.
cool on the wrist but sketch under macro.

IF I was better at lume. I would just do a negative relief gilt dial , apply the decal. air brush the tropical effect and then wash off the decal to reveal the neg gilt and then clear and lume. but I wonder how difficult it would be to wash away the decal and not wash away the paint. or will the paint prevent the decal stencil from washing off.

did a test colour sample on a blank raffles sent to me when we were developing the tropical dials.

or an easier method would be : I would start with blanks but my lume work isnt pro so buying this dial with the lume done seems ideal.

buy a few of these unbranded dials
air brush unique tropical fades onto the dial surface.
apply gilt print decal dial (film or filmless ) over top the paint work.
then you get a clean looking tropical dial without overspray onto the print.

can you get a nice gold color print on a decal ? I know its not neg relief but we can have it all , can we.
as long as the paint on the decal was similar or close to the paint color used on the dial for the chapter ring markers.

My call out to any dial maker out there... who would be interested in working together on this.

if you can print off a sheet of gold print decals for the explorer I will buy some of these unbranded dials, air brush fades into them and send them to you so you can print and apply the decal on top of the dial. I will pay for the materials, prints and time , and of course you get a tropical dial for your troubles. who doesn't want to add a tropical dial explorer to their collection??

HMU if you are interested or we can group work this project and see what we come up with.
feedback welcome
