For a press fit insert, stainless steel isn't going to expand enough to allow the insert to just fall out. And by the time it was cool enough to work on any benefit would be lost. Also there is risk of damage to marker fill.Has anyone attempted to use boiling water to expand the bezel and hopefully have an easier time removing/installing the ceramic insert?
Yes, actually tried it and like KJ said, it has no effect.Has anyone attempted to use boiling water to expand the bezel and hopefully have an easier time removing/installing the ceramic insert?
You can press the combined bezel + insert on in one step. You must be extremely careful to not press on the insert though. I'm sure you know how easily they can crack.Hi all, great thread. Question if any can help me. I just purchased a gen insert + bezel that is already together. Can I just snap the bezel only the watch as is or do I need to remove the insert first?

Either way you do it now carries some risk. Gen inserts are press fit, which alone is a risk, both in separating the pieces and in joining them together again.
If you press the pieces back as a combo, use a die that contacts the bezel only and not the insert at all. Make sure the bezel goes down evenly all the way around and not lopsided. That can cause the die to slip from the bezel and contact the insert. Plus it makes it harder to seat the bezel.
Be sure to verify that a bezel gasket (hytrel ring) is installed in the bezel groove and inspect its condition for cuts, tears, or hanging slivers. It can be massaged some with a toothpick and tiny amount of silcone grease. This will also aid in a smoother pressing to the case.
Ooof that sounds complicated. So you can't just put on the full bezel like you can a 4 or 5 digit sub?
Appreciate the response.
Thanks for this, its a 126610. Any chance you are a US based watchsmith? No it's not simple like earlier models. You should read some more about this process and maybe try removing and reinstalling your rep bezel before attempting it with gen parts. You didn't say what model you have, but the steps are quite similar with any.
