Hi all,

Was just reading through this thread and just wanted to know if it’s ok to pay by CC on 2 TD websites??
One is trustytime and the other is puretime.
They say everything is encrypted via SSL but not sure how true that is??
Anyone offer guidance??
Thanks.

It's best to have a card that does virtual cards, one use and they are inert. It's the dealers you need to worry about, its the processors but in reality it's no more dangerous than using your card at any one of the dozens of places you use it all then time. Any one of them could prove your undoing.

I just used my Mastercard to order from Trustytime, the system looked all OK and the transcation verified through my cc app, it wasn't just a form to send the card details straight to the dealer.

I lowered my credit limit to just cover the cost of the watch and will probably request a new card once I revieve the item just in case.

Well let’s hope everything turns out ok. I just thought rather be safe than sorry so I used my virtual Revolut card to make the payment. Took a few days but got an email saying it went through ok.
Now I’m just waiting on qc pics, Andrew from trusty said it can take anywhere from 4-12 days but he has passed the order into the factory. It’s been a week so far so let’s see, fingers crossed I get the pics soon as I’m itching to get the watch.

Good luck with the order buddy ! Same here - just waiting for the QC's now, looking forward to posting the pics in Andrew's review section.

We used to do Pre-Paid cards until PP came out with G&S payments and it's all I have used ever since. It's still not without it's own set of problems though.

Thank you very much for providing such valuable information. It's always important to be cautious when making purchases online, especially when using credit cards.

I got burned too. Two days ago they made a transaction of what translates to 80 USD on my credit card from iTunes. I called my bank and blocked the card. Also called Apple Support. They'll transfer the money back to my account as they could see from the transactions that it's been misused.
Other than this card I've used two other cards on different TD sites. I'm considering to change the cards so they won't get misused too.
ah yes it’s scary your story it’s 80 it’s huge

I bought my last rep from trusty using a CC about a year ago. I had to give the transaction the okay with my CC company over the phone but after that all went through with no issues. I’d always check with the dealer first because situations change

Which way is the safest way to transfer the money to the trusted dealers? Is PayPal the safest? Or bank transfer?

I would say paypal but especially not for payment between friends because there is no insurance but I have to have a reseller that accepts paypal, that’s another problem

In my lifetime of purchasing experiences, including TD's on here that accept PP F&F it is OK to use, if you have an issue they will sort it out !! The F&F is used by TD's to prevent unreasonable purchasers from doing charge-backs, and like any business, there is a folks who have been unreasonable including with our TD's.

Edit ....

If one or both parties are unhappy with F&F then use Bank Transfer, which is perfectly safe for everyone, that is the main method my customers use to pay me in my Garage business.

PayPal is indeed one of the easiest payment methods but from everything I know, practically no dealer takes it any more. I guess a few bad apples ruined things for everyone. I have read of very special cases where the dealer was Very acquainted with a buyer and only then took PayPal but like most of us, they aren’t going to take it, at least not in the beginning I sure wish they took PayPal from me, would be nice not to have to jump through potential hoops doing other forms of payment. Maybe that’s why it’s been two years since I ve bought a rep.

The ones I use do allow F&F, (UK) and M2M's, but they like to see you are an RWI Supporter and Certified and sometimes have a couple of trades under yer belt, after all there are so many whiners who don't read the stickies and are impatient, do not consider what they are buying at a fraction of gen cost etc etc

In light of recent events (multiple threads about sudden charges on credit-cards that were ONLY used on TD websites) I decided to do a short write-up of why you should always take your precautions.

This might be common sense to some, but let me just state the obvious: You are purchasing illegal products from a seller based in CHINA. This isn't amazon. No payment processor will knowingly allow these transactions to go through.

Typically when you're filling out a form for CC payments on TD websites, this will just be a basic contact form that sends your full CC details (non-encrypted) directly to your TD. They will then take your details and fill them in on an external shill-website to process your payments. Mod edit. The CC processor itself is most likely also shady as f* :)

Anyone working the TD website can fully see the entire CC-details and theoretically use it as they'd please. It's also incredibly vulnerable to any entry-hacker setting up a sniffer and just grabbing your CC information off their site.

A regular CC-payment gateway would encrypt most numbers and only leave 4 digits visible to shopkeepers (for confirmation purposes). Most TD sites receive the entire number (expiration date + security numbers) and then process it on their end.

Would I want to send my CC information sent across the world unsecured, to some illegal operation in china selling counterfeit items? No. At least not my "main" credit-cards with a balance / credit.

If you absolutely MUST use a CC, then do yourself a favour and use a throw-away card or a one-time virtual card. There are plenty of services online for virtual cards, or prepaid cards.

Regardless; paying with a Banktransfer, WU, BTC or other methods will almost always give you a further discount on your purchase - so that's definitely also something you should consider, it really makes no sense paying extra just to use a CC.

This is not me saying that you can't trust the TD's here, I'm sure plenty of people are paying with CC without further issues. They are however big targets for hacking attempts, they could have a rogue employee, shady payment processors and lots of other reasons.

Just be cautious guys. It's so easy to get an additional CC card for one-time purposes and it would save you a lot of trouble SHOULD something happen.

The TD's should use digital currency, it is faster and can be additionally secured with the transfer of one dollar. Old methods using your own account (IBAN) are very slow and ultimately not secure, as I discovered when transferring from DE to SK. But on-off ramps for digital currencies are important here. Otherwise, I use a prepaid CC that I have to top up in advance.
