I was fortunate enough to try on the 16618 circa 1993/94 this week. Drilled lug holes. I know it’s not 1:1 with the BP but to my surprise I struggled to differentiate the weight. The old full gold version is very light weight compared to today’s full gold SubC.
With a bracelet swap for the newer version and keep old clasp we have a winner.

What does bracelet swap for a new version mean?

I should be getting my 16613LB finally Monday.

I know for a fact that I am not good enough to do one of @KJ2020's awesome clasp protection jobs...

Any idea on a makeshift 93153-18 clasp?

I used one of Raffles clasps - the one with the safety catch unassembled - on a WSO 14Kt plated bracelet for my 16613LV build
Not sure of the gen ref # - but the last section (below at the bottom of the clasp) is a little shorter than the clasp in your picture above. But it was easier to attach to the TT bracelet than taking the longer assembled Raffles one apart.

Why is a clasp change needed?
Re-read what you quoted.

I know the gold plating on mine will be all scratched up very quickly.

I liked my 16618 so much that i ordered a 16613 blue/ss right after the holiday. I was told 20 min later that it’s in stock at the factory and ready to go. So I paid, and now I’m waiting again for QC pics. I liked the old days better when you would pay and get QC the next day. Now it seems to be 2 weeks and then another week before it’s shipped. Oh well.

Anyone have an update about the polished bracelet ends for the 16610?

Has BP addressed this yet?
Just received QC, and it looks like they haven't. But it's also a bit hard to be 100% sure due to the wrapping.

Got this in today. I pulled the crystal and gave the rehaut a light polish, changed the crystal to a CF 126710 V3 with a 2.7mm gasket, and used some 0.56mm fishline that I sanded down to 0.50ish mm to reduce the vertical play the bezel had. Now there is no more vertical bezel play and the rotation is spot on now. I was going to just use a 16610 crystal retaining ring and completely swap to a 5 digit bezel setup but realized there was the lip that would stop the retaining ring from being flush. I was going to use a 2.85 or 3mm crystal gasket to get the correct "looking" crystal height but the date was huge lol. I settled for the 2.7mm gasket in the end even though it looks like the crystal sits lower than I would like. Also swapped over a spare VS autowind which smithed out the winding. I am quite satisfied with the watch now and feel it is a perfect daily.

It is not hard to do at all and you can not tell it is there. It will bring you piece of mind knowing it is protecting the watch. I highly recommend it!

Thanks @KJ2020 for the idea.
