You wrote the book and in the end the message was :
STAY AWAAAAYYYY!!!

My CHNR still goes worn off clasp gold and all!!

The BPs are great for scratching the itch, which is enough for some! You can do some cool stuff with them.

Any updates on the Raffles Time case back fitting on newer rep samples?

I'm tempted to buy a BP and swap the caseback. But I would be very happy to check if someone already tried

I got both in hand. The rafflesdials caseback and the 16710 GMT which I bought from BP 2 weeks ago.

Sadly it does not fit.

Thread of the BP has 30.8mm diameter and the rafflesdials caseback has a thread diameter of 30.3mm.

I already contacted rafflesdials and a taobao seller to see if they can supply me a caseback that fits.

Either way I think I will be able to use the 30.3mm caseback on my new purchase: BP 16570.

I used the case back of a Tiger Concept watch I had lying around and it worked. Bear in mind it doesn’t say Rolex and it’s the old kind of cover, meaning all polished and a bit bubbly. But I didn’t care as no one will see it.

Hi, I'm pretty new here. Just read this whole thread. I just ordered a bp from Andrew at trusty. The only model I could find has the a3186 'replica' movement. I understand this is one of the timebomb gmt movements. I'm curious if one of the much better vr3186 movements would be a direct swap, or what would need to be done/needed for the swap. Thanks in advance. This thread is incredibly thorough.

If the a3186 is eta based then the dial and hands won’t fit without modding if you switch it vr3186. I don’t know if the vr3186 will fit the case either.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I'm still waiting on qc pics. When I get a picture of the actual movement I'll post here. Is there anything specific I should know about these a3186 movements?

There is no a3186 movement. That is ad lingo from a TD. A BP will only have a non true clone DG2813 ICHS (GMT version DG3804), a modded DG3804 CHS timebomb, a 2824 CHS timebomb, or a 2836 ICHS. Some of these non true clone movements may have a fake 3186 engraving. A BP case will not take a true clone VR/SH/SA 3186 without some careful modding and even then the stem height is not perfect which can require the tube O ring to be removed so the stem can even fit and work. The BP case is not a good candidate for swapping movements, other than to a different non true clone one.

Swap CHS to ICHS

If you post a link to the watch you bought. I can tell you what movement you have.

I think he is probalby referring to the newer BPF/JDF 5-digit GMTs that come with the SA3186 movement that is based on the SA3135 (i.e., not a great movement).

Trusty has these listed as being from BPF and identifies the movement as A3186: ROLGMT0238C - GMT II 16710 Red/Blue SS/SS Blk BPF A3186 CHS

PureTime seems to have the same model listed as being from JDF and identifies the movement as SA3186: GMT-Master II 16710 Pepsi Blue/Red Bezel JDF 1:1 Best Edition Black Dial on SS Bracelet SA3186

In contrast, InTime still has the older BPF model listed with a decorated 2836-based GMT movement identified as A3186 with ICHS: GMT-MASTER 16710 SS BP BLUE/RED BEZEL SS BRACELET A3186

Well now this is an interesting development, provided the factories (and TDs) actually deliver a true clone movement. JDF is the name GMF used right after it was raided so BP/GMF/JDF are all the same.

GMF/JDF have a long history of bait and switch when it comes to movements.

That a true clone is shown fitted to a 5 digit case is good news though. I will have to order one and swap a VR3186 in. It appears the exterior is unchanged, a shame because the angled tops on the CGs, wide chamfers, non gen-spec crystal, bezel and insert still nag at the purist. But at $328 it's not too hard to swallow the extra cost for a solid true clone movement.

Thanks for the post!

BTW not that it REALLY matters but in case anyone is interested only the very last samples of gen 16710's (Z and M serials, late 2006 and 2007) had 3186s. And those all have "sticks" dials, like the the one I reviewed here.

So this newer BP release should either be engraved 3185 or have a sticks dial with the 3186 engraving.

Note the lack of horizontal caps and bases on the II after GMT MASTER on the dial on the far right. That is a sticks dial, so-called because they look like sticks.

After re-re-rereading the gmt movent thread, I think I've gotten to the bottom of my own question. As best I can tell, the model I ordered is the 2836. It has the GMT hand on the bottom of the stack and it's clearly an ETA derivation. Thanks for all the info KJ2020
