Yeah was thinking if I could transplant the guts of the BP into this case then use the BP bracelet that would be a great start.
Then at a later date maybe get a new dial and hands (only really the GMT hand but they come as a pack so might as well do them all)
You reckon its doable?

Should be.

My only question is- is the BP dial too big to fit in a gen-like case? Isn't the BP dial around 27.8mm or more and a gen dial is in the 27.3- 27.5mm range.

It’s possible. I thought that 28.5 or so should fit. At least with Subs it does vs 29mm dials. Seems to have worked with raffles dials going into ARF cases vs BP cases.

Is the thickness and crown position still off like with the old movement?

I'm referring to the indexes touching the rehaut around 10pm but not around 4 pm (see red arrows).
Either the dial is not centered inside the case (maybe fixable), or the dial is not printed correctly.
I didn't saw any BP with the same issue from pictures online

Autoreponse: I received the watch and centered the dial myself, it's very easy. Here an after picture for comparison

You just have to remove the bracelet, open the caseback then slightly unscrew the 2 movement screws. With your screwdriver you gently push the movement from the side then reassemble everything (2 or 3 iterations may be necessary).

The BP 16710 is great and the VR3186 very smooth and accurate. Beside the common flaws on this model, I have 2 issues:
- the priting on the insert is not perfectly centered, I will buy a aftermarket one to replace
- the bezel assembly as some play, it's not very tight when turning. Is there an easy fix? (Part replacement or modification)

In the coming days I will order the new insert and file the inside of the cg to get closer to gen

Would you mind sharing where you buy insert? I can see myself buying a black and Pepsi insert in the future

The watch on my wrist

These "modern" vintage models from around the 2000s are realy perfect in terms of size and design. Not too flashy but beautiful

It's a great watch for the price imho...

Of course, it has some flaws, but with a few mods you can make it a great watch.

Here is a sample of a BP with a 2836 that i had mod two years ago

Your cg and case work look phenomenal. This is the look I’m going for when I buy the BP soon

I would like to redo the case as well.
How did you proceed to remove the chamfer?

Thanks guys!

I’ve made also an 16570 exp II from BP in the past with modified case, gen bezel and crystal. Really great watch for the price.

About chamfers i had removed them with a bench file, and then redo a lateral brushing.

About CG’s i hadn’t only open a bit them, but i redó also a lateral profile, brush the case side, and polish just cg’s side, like genuine. So in this case have also “square” effect that is more gen like than stock

EDIT: i’ve also reworked the theets of the bezel and the internal diameter to accept genuine insert (fitted in pictures) without glue but with pressure like genuine

I’m gonna refinish the case with heave use lol, I’m usually pretty picky with details but cg/chamfer/lug shape does not bother me one bit
