Thanks KJ! I thought I might of snapped the post (as its so thin) - but i checked it under magnifaction and it looks ok, and I could put the second hand back on the ARF movement - so my thought is that it might be tolerance difference.

I will see if I can get a gen/VR hands first, if not, I'm going to try with your suggestion re. using the SH centre wheel!

Cool. IDK what your experience level is with the movement. LMK if you need help doing the swap. The train wheel bridge has to come off to get to the minute pinion bridge to swap the second wheel but it's really not difficult at all. You don't need to mess with the balance assembly at all so not risky.

My ARF ran well for a few days and then started stopping, always when the minute hand was on about 22 mins. The hour hand was misaligned too, so even though I didn’t have time to pull down the movement I figured I’d open it up and align the hour hand and just have a quick look at what I could see of the movement.

Pulled the rotor and autowind off and found a hair in there. Found a weird grimy little thing hanging out the side of the movement. Grabbed it with tweezers and gently pulled and it slid out. Flattened it out on my bench and it was a small soft plastic piece quite similar to the protective plastic used on the side of the clasp lock when shipped. So I thought I’ll just give the movement a few puffs of air and see if anything comes out, and another hair, a tiny thin shard of metal and a tiny piece broken off of a jewel came out. Bad day on the assembly line that’s for sure.

Anyway I always planned on swapping in a VR movement so one is on the way now. Once I swap it in I’ll pull down my SH movement and let you know what other stuff is in there.

Just ordered the Posca Paint. I'll start working on the bezel next week when it arrives and post the before and after.

Call me a scrooge but if I can fix a perfectly good thing economically that makes sense to me! Huge shout-out to the greatest KJ2020

I’m thinking of putting a layer of Testors matte enamel lacquer on my ARF bezel to try and protect it from chipping. Might be worth trying some on the paint mod as well. Not sure if the enamel lacquer would “mix” well with the paint (it might remove it - like alcohol/thinner). But could be worth a shot. I’ll update on how it interacts with the AR factory stock bezel once I start the project (hopefully next week).

My concern with lacquer is that when the lacquer chips it may take huge chunks of paint with it and would be messy to clean up. But definitely worth a try! Thank you for doing this.

I would try it on a junk insert first bro. I've tried clear coats several times and was never happy with the results. On a paint mod, it tended to mix with the base paint and become a thick mess. I've never tried it on an unaltered factory insert though.

After 8 months of ownership, SH3186 movement broke, bezel insert paint coming off... gave it a much needed refresh and here it is!

bewa4.jpg

Brand new ARF bezel insert, VR3185 movement, VRF dial and hands, ARF 116710LN case and bracelet.

Perfect combination of parts IMO. I would keep the insert free of all contact with everything - grimy fingers, dust, water, high humidity, etc. That's a given for me on every rep, I never touch my bezels except to realign them if they get off center. Use dessicant or damp-rid to remove moisture from your storage environment. That insert looks perfect, it's the closest to gen ever made. Please keep us updated on its longevity.

Hi guys!
Do you think that the paint chipping problem of the insert is now fixed with the latest ones?

Pen was $6 and shippping to EU was $38 :(
Iv seen the same pen, with same EAN
but English text on it instead of Japanese

Think it’s the same color/product or is the one with Japanese text on it special ?

thanks :)

If it's Posca with Japanese writing on it, it's the same pen.

Sad, another one bites the dust. The date indicator seating plate flaw must be present in a whole batch. At least you will get a much better datewheel with your VR. And the jump click is better too.

I'm happy with my franken ARF (date module is gen). The ARF bracelet is the best in the business and always feels premium as all hell. I consider my small build to be a complete setup.

I think getting a VR, then buying a gen bezel, prof/gen crystal and ARF bracelet, comes up to just about the same price range if not more than the ARF setup with a prof crystal and gen DW module.

ARF is a better caseset IMO, I have several VR's running great stock with no issues so add a VR movement/dial/hands to an ARF is a pretty build too. I don't think the ARF crystal is that bad. Personally I would prefer a rep crystal to a reduced mag but there should be a way to correct for that.

Agreed.

If the prof could make a 3x crystal that would be great
