This is essentially keeping my 38mm dreams alive. The Daytona BEZEL measures 38. But the case has a “belly” measuring 40.

I don’t have caliper measurements of the ROC 38. Maybe someone can help? It would have to have the case hollowed out to the maximum.

This is freakin exciting to say the least, I too hope for a 38mm option. Could not care about the subdial being slightly off the axis lol
You are actually getting an infinitely better movement. Gen 1185 movement is uni-directional winding. And the Daytona movement is nothing short of a breakthrough -less parts, more efficient, reliable and accuracy.

Hell, I prefer this Daytona + AP collab more.

My only concern - and I'm a complete amateur at understanding this stuff, so maybe someone can explain this and put me at ease - is what did they add for a date complication and is it properly trained/jeweled? And how reliable is that modification to a movement that normally doesn't have one?

I got sucked back into AP by the 26240 and now this panda has my attention. Could not care less about a millimeter or two about axis locations. That panda is sweet.

SL-4801 isn’t modified to have a date wheel. It was designed originally with the date wheel in mind and cloned off a Daytona. Tried and tested.

I wouldn’t sleep on the 26240. It’s the only fly back chrono in the market.

Well then that is definitely good news. Told ya I was an amateur when understanding these things lol. You'd think I'd know a little more after 12+ years

I have my green dial 26240 on my wrist right now, lovin' it.

Thank you for the reply! This puts my mind a little more at ease now.

Guys, hope you enjoy the following video with the indication of DD-4801 movement is used, and thickness is 11mm.
As for price (from other bilibili video), it was mentioned about CNY 3k ~ 4k.

When he manually winds that thing towards the end of the video, it sounds gritty. Merely just an observation.

China local pricing around 3200 to 3400 cny depending on the dealer markup

Trusted dealer you can expect to add another 15 to 30 percent

not bad at all! Better than the $888 price on the 26240

It is normal, 4801 has the grainy sound when manual wind.

I suppose it is for different needs. 26240 for those who enjoy latest eye candy on movement and flyback chrono.
26331 is for slimmer case of 11mm , but I do expect they launch a 38mm case size with 11mm thickness for small wrist & lady.

I don’t think 38mm is lady size. It’s just that AP and Omega fully commited to the over size trend of the mid 2000s and now they are caught off guard when everything normalized to 38 to 40mm. They now have to sell these 41mm+ calibers somewhere ? Easy call 38mm unisex. (AP doesn’t call their prized 39mm jumbo model as a unisex. ) It’s just that they need customers for 40mm+

Rolex and Patek never really committed. Took longer to see the trends. Thats why the bulk of their models fall under 40mm. Tudor is sticking smaller for new releases. It’s timeless vs. trends.

Damn guys when I started this thread I thought this was a far fetched dream / that I was getting scammed 😂

Huge that this watch is actually getting made!

How much is the FP1185 + SW dial hand date combo usually? Not counting the CNC case

For a 1185 (e.g. from Cartier) you are looking at $3-5k.

So this release is really going to make these watches a lot cheaper!
