100% this!

There are some great whiskies on this list, a few of which I always have stocked in my cabinet (Laphroaig 10 and Hibiki Hramony especially). I don't recall ever trying a Taiwanese whiskey so Kavalan has jumped to the top of my try list!
If you're into the sherry profile almost anything from kavalan is pretty good. Even the base one is good and one of the most approachable, easy drinkers. I also think they're fantastic deals because ppl are doubtful of Taiwanese whiskey still so don't even try it.

Bourbon enthusiast here. Found a favorite at another tasting event. Penelope. The one in the blue bottle. (French Oak Staves). Other favorites, Woodford Double Oaked, and Rabbit Hole Dareringer.

As a whiskey nerd with hundreds of bottles, it depends on what flavor profile you like. Someone mentioned trying one from each category to see what you like first and I think that's a good suggestion.

Here are some starters:
Islay: Lagavulin 16 or Laphroaig 10
Highland: highland park 15+
Campbelltown: springBank 10
Speyside: macallan 15+
Japanese: hibiki harmony, yamazaki or hakashu 12
Irish: green spot
Bourbon: Buffalo Trace, Weller, eh Taylor
Rye: willett 4yr
American: jack Daniels single barrel, high west
Taiwanese: kavalan
Sherry bombs: aberlour abunadh, tamdhu

Most on this list are cheaper bottles but once you define your favorite styles you can move up to nicer bottles
Thanks @ dynastydog this is just what I needed

Hey, i've found a new nice single malt. If the common MC Allen is a litten too expensive for daydrinking (you know whati mean :D) try out Glendronach 15 years. I tryed it at Emburys Bar FFM by recommandation (one of the top bars in germany). I think its absolutly underrated!

I find myself really into higher proof bourbon these days. As a staple, I highly suggest elijah craig barrel proof.

For whiskey? Red breast 12 you can't go wrong
For Scotch? Dalmore 12 is my go to. (They also make a Cigar Malt that is amazing but pricey for an entry into Scotch)

I remember when I could walk into almost any liquor store and buy Blanton’s off the shelf for under $50. Those days are over. By limiting the supply and hyping the brand price is skyrocketing and almost impossible to get. Sort of like a Rolex Submariner.
I do like Blanton's Gold a lot,
and nowadays you even can get it on Amazon.

I dislike Blanton's Gold as it is expensive for what it is. Blanton's Straight from the Barrel however, is worth the $200. World's better if you like high proof.

I don't listen to the haters, blanton's sb is a good low proof sipper regardless of what the taters say.
