it is $140-150 more expensive indeed

I personally would do Ali plus case work though.
So these do have the engraving which is nice... the issue is it is the WRONG engraving for a 14060. Still a very nice case! Might have to try a few.

I’ll take wrong engraving and ability to accept gen parts over needing to do a fair amount of case work.

That’s just my $0.02 though
you are not wrong.
It's just a question of perspective and context.

@Caboose and myself are playing at making credible, fun and endearing watches for an affordable price tag. 😁

for myself, I happen to like doing case work, even if my home setup severely limits my productivity & volume output.

Not trying to discredit what you are doing.

Just stating my personal preference. That’s the joy of builds , you can do as you wish.

Head only

Sillan Case
Case 200
Dial 35
Movement 75
Hands 15
Crystal 30
Lugs require drilling

AliExpress Case
Case 35
Dial 35
Movement 27
Hands 5

Neither of the assembly operations is difficult.
In my opinion, the Sillan case is better looking.

putting this here.
A sub group of the 1016 club is exploring (haha) the 14060

We found interesting cases, but the bezel insert size is a key issue to solve.

One of the ideas is to swap the crystal to a gen spec 14060 crystal, and use a gasket to close the gap, plus maybe hypo cement? As the bezel insert would cover the gap, it should look good

For record :
14060 insert
outside diameter is 36.6mm (some say 36.5)
inside diameter: 29.7mm

@Karbon74 great stuff, I tried looking for some discussions about this on the 1016 threads but couldn't see anything. With these cases, would any of them take a gen' spec' dial? or would a raffles dial be used?

I did reach out to a few suppliers and also some members here with regards to trying to organise a group build of gen' spec' cases, I even offered to front the money for 10 pieces but pretty much got a hard no..

Been looking for decent 1016 cases too. It’s way more than few and far between.

The cases we are looking at are NH35. so standard Raffles 28.5mm

Now, none of us* are shooting at full gen spec at this point. If you look at the latest @Caboose listings, it will be more of 200-400 max builds.

More than that and you are hitting BP 5 digits price range and people are better off slapping a raffles dial on a BP 16610 (dunno if that fits)

and above that in 600-1000 range, the price vs value is not great.

* ok ok, I admit that I will give it a shot later this year, but for my personal watch 😁

Fact of the matter is the BP is nice, and it is a great value for a 16610. I own one! However, the AliX-Rafles builds are such an insanely good value, even more so than the BP. They cost me $140 to build as I have itemized my build costs, so you of course can see. Is the BP twice as nice? If you want the 3135, then yes, I'd recommend it. But if you want an affordable build that gets you 95% of the way to the BP, then the AliX-Raffles is the way to go.

Really, just ask yourself if you want the 3135. That's the primary question. The NH movements are bulletproof though. And if you ever need to replace, another NH movement will be $30!

@Karbon74 @Caboose
Yeah that's a fair point with the price vs value. Totally agree on that. The few that have appeared on m2m with gen' spec' viet cases are usually in the 3k euro range which is steep! Like you say, with your AliX-Raffles build you're most of the way there at a pinch of the price..

For me it's mostly about the proportions, the gen 14060 is a stunning watch in real life. And if I had the spare cash it would probably be my first gen' purchase. Would just nice for someone to make a more affordable home for all these lonely gen' 14060 dials..
