I guess you're right That's why I'm going the AP route. Have had Rolex for years (gens as well as replicas) but I'm starting to dislike the stigma that comes with it.
I just started to appreciate the AP brand, beautiful designs that, like you said, flies somewhat under the radar. Too bad I entered the AP world some years too late, the prices on the second hand marked are ridiculous.
In 2014 you could get the 15202 for $5k used.

this time is over....you can't have such regrets....
in 2009 a 6263 was 20k .
in 2000 a naut. with discounted
In 2009 a PN was 70K.
a 5513 was worth nothing 5 years ago...
I had difficulties to sale a mint 16520 and thinking I was doing a good deal in 2016 sold it for 9,5k - today it is 25k.
worst, a double balance was 65k 2 years ago ...
The 5402/15202 and in between is without any doubt one of the most important watch in the recent sport watch history, without this model, probably no Genta hype, certainly no nautilus and so on, and who knows, may be half of the luxury sport segment today won't exist ( and of course all the Neo clones of the current Royal oaktilus ). It was normal that sooner or later this would catch the market curve, specially with now AP being THE fashion brand the "young people" are placing between Rolex and PP....
but let's forget the hype let us talk about watch around the wrist (not in a safe)...
although I won't compare AP with Rolex or PP, the RO line made its place in the recent watch history and without the RO line and its evolution, a sport wearable watch would certainly still be 36mm or less today.
i am a defender of the royal oak and its history I know, it doesn't seem to be a neutral "analysis" I know, but for me there is no watch of the level of the RO line on the market today. like many here I had the chance to wear several nice watches but trust me, I got rid of all after a while around the wrist (this includes the most famous sports watches such as daytona, Speedmaster, submariner, gmt, nautilus...). to me, The Royal oak(s), once on the wrist are providing a different wrist presence and some vibrations the others don't ....
in short, for me* a Royal oak is something else....
*A royal oak is one of these watches you'll buy twice-and I am almost convinced the other RO/ROO lovers will tell you the same .... I mean the real ones, the ones who hated AP for its reliability, hated AP for the price of the maintenance, hated Ap for the delay of their service... They ve been looking for something else, but around the wrist RO/ROO are just unparalleled....
