Lost a back screw on an AP 15400 Royal Oak. I was able to actually use gen bezel screws. No difference can be spotted

I can weigh my gen gold themes (on leather + buckle) for you if you like. 295g is incidentally the weight of the gen platinum Schumacher on rubber straps + buckle.
Gold plated steel can never weigh like gold but there are ways indeed to increase the weight of the watch. I recently worked on one and it was interesting to say the least. :hehehe:

Nice franken project flying-tommy, what did you do for the case back for this one?

No need Legend than you for the offer, I was just curious as I imagined it was on the heavy side- that's a nice watch but I would never be able to wear such an heavyweight :-(

Yes I do get it E. Some like their watches light and others, hefty.
Gold watches are not easy to wear daily given the relative softness of the material and the very limited times it can be polished (I will say 2-3 max)

what I noticed regarding 'rather' heavy watches VS light ones, is that you do not forget it on the wrist and then you tend to pay more attention.
I mean if I compare a rather light and thin watch I have with a thick heavier one , I hit the thin one several times a day when around the wrist, while I always pay attention to my heavy ones....

in short I tend to forget my light ones and then get them scratch quicker...

Hi AI,

it's not my watch, it was a project. We used a caseback from the old RGRC, as can be seen in the picture above.
Of course, a Gen Movement would look nicer, especially with the golden rotor. But it doubles the cost of one Franken easily.

I personally do not necessarily need to look at the work. Of course it would be nice. I calculated it for the Safari II, but then you come to dimensions where it makes sense to buy a used gene. I prefer to build two new projects.

But if someone gets the movement and rotor at good prices, I would absolutely recommend it.

The problem is becoming....

AP has changed its policy and revoked the licenses of all the small service centers.

All the parts that are currently still available come from these small service centers.

Therefore the prices for new parts are shooting up more and more and there won't really be much more to come.

I also believe that we have had the best Franken times in terms of parts availability.

This set arrived today and I clearly paid far too much for it, but it was always a dream to build the Bumblebee with beautiful parts.

Hey FT,

Thank you for the reply, and I like the look of the watch with closed case back for RG pieces. I just want to share with you that I know a fellow local AP collector, who replaced his full bracelet gold 26470 with a solid RG custom closed caseback, without engraving or such. Reason he gave was that he preferred the entire watch to be in gold, and he wanted to add weight to the watch. Well done also for the efforts put into replating/finishing the watch. Like I explained to you before, I have spoken well of your replating to a specific member and showed him that the color is very close or identical to my gen AP RG pieces.

This is a nice project, no matter who the watch belongs to. 295g is a very good weight.
It is always nice to see such watches from you, and I wish you all the best for your bee!

flying tommy. those are not the gen hands?

You are half right. Unfortunately the Seller send me wrong Hands for hour and minute.

The small Chrono Hands and Central Chrono are correct but the H/M Hands for an 41mm Chrono.

Now I’m waiting if he could send me the right ones.

The Bumblebee was in total a really really painful project.
We need Friday over 10 hours to finish the Watch and the Case was already prepared.

The Case construction is totally different and with lowered Crown you have some trouble with Tachy/Glass/Gaskets.....etc.

However, this has shown me again that an unscheduled Franken can cost a lot of time, nerves and money. A lot of things that you can never get out of a sale, but that is our hobby and even after such experiences it is still fun.

I found that that a gen Diver bezel gasket worked best for these BB Frankens paired with a 3.5mm aftermarket stepped crystal. You also have to cut a recess for the tachymeter a little lower than the JF recess.
