What a mess! I certainly hope that he makes this right for all that he conned. A big hats off to all of the staff here for doing what's in their power for the well-being and safety of this community. This thread should set the tone for all vendors/TD's here and remind them of their duty to their customers.

Looks more like 30k now, new ones just keep on showing up.
That's a real number.

Personally if it was me, I would file small claims lawsuits in the state of his residence, there are plenty of ways of filing and writing it without incriminating oneself. Paying for watch service and customization is not a crime.
If he ignores the suits, which he likely will, they will go to default judgment. At that point the judgment holders can combine to have a single source enforce them.

This approach has teeth and will hurt. I have no idea if this loser has assests to go after but that's easily found if someone passes me over his info.

Good luck everyone, this is a terrible thing and I hope you are all made whole.

Incriminating oneself for what? Possession of a replica watch is not a crime in the US so you are correct, people can 100% make a claim via small claims or a police complaint for fraud as they have paid for things that were not delivered.

That was my point exactly.

Cops 'generally' won't give a shit and say it's a civil issue, most attorneys or judgment enforcement firms wouldn't care about small amounts but a conglomerate of judgments can be collected concurrently and jam him up for years and combined it's large enough to get qualified people to do the work.

In most states they will sit on your credit (and tank your score) and be enforceable between 10 and 20 years. It's a very annoying existence.

It's really sad when an old, well established and respected member act in that manner. Building a reputation and betraying the staff and their hard work it's a shame. Many thanks, as always, to the Boss and all the staff for your protection.

Could it be he has health issues or is very sick or maybe he is having major personal issues preventing him from doing the right thing by contacting those who paid him for his services and watch parts he has sold to RWI members? Not giving him the benefit of doubt as it seems odd he would go cold or become a scammer after all of the money he has made the past years from RWI members.

Shit, to be honest, whenever someone goes MIA I usually assume they were picked up by the aliens or the feds before thinking that they got sick or dying lol. Anyways it is a shame that this guy ghosted a lot of people. I have been hesitant to do any business with him due to other players in this game warning me about the hype around the guy, glad I followed their advise and hope those affected can recover their property and $$$.

This guys, this!!!!!

The advice earlier in the thread about not making a police complaint because you bought a replica is just hog shit I'm afraid. Drug dealers are always getting robbed by fellow crims who burst in and steal the stash and money at gun point. Do the police go, "Sorry Mr drug dealer, we won't investigate the fact that you were robbed at gunpoint and pistol-whipped on the basis you're a naughty drug dealer". Let me answer that. No, the police don't say that. They do investigate and the robbers go to prison for many years if the evidence is there. The police will not give a single shit that your watch was a fake. You don't have to go into masses of detail if you don't want - call it a mechanical watch - but they really won't care that it's a fake. They might not be all that interested in a single fraud if Mr Shady has buggered off with your watch that's only worth a few hundred bucks as it's small time crime, but if you guys get together, all give a witness statement setting out the scale of your individual loss and if someone takes the lead and gives therefore the police a running total of the total loss, that is a figure that will get the police interested and if you're all willing to give statements, that gives the police a lot of evidence against Mr Shady. So make an effort and get your ass to the police collectively.

Sad to see one of the greats in this situation. I've had times where I have customer strap orders backed up and I can't imagine ghosting people. Just be honest and issue refunds if necessary, shit happens and people will understand if you are good faith and responsive. It takes 30 seconds to answer an email or a PM.

Like many of you, I have been a patron of Oascom over the years and bookmarked many of his insightful posts. With all that said , it's wild to me that he is risking any future revenue & the 8 years of trust that he has built in this community for a quick buck (or 30k of them). Esp. given that he knows the reach of this community and what happens to scammers here. For example, if you have ever used his services you have access to his address and from there it doesn't take much time on the Internet to find out his full name/telephone number, business, etc. He obviously knows this too. So why bother?

Not that you ever want something wrong with ones health, but the optimistic part of me hopes there is a simple answer like that. However, we've seen these exit strategies before and sadly this definitely smells like one.

Also wtf is he going to do with all that equipment he has invested in? As no one on this forum is going to be shipping their watch off to some "new" modder in NJ who is selling/installing custom GMT Master meteorite dials.

Be interesting to see this play out.

Just to echo the rest of the gang: Thanks to the mods for all the good you do and sorry for the BS you have to deal with at times.

Best of luck to the Oascoms creditors. Fingers crossed for a quick resolve.
