Again, i disagree... Expendables the movie is doing quite well.. Creed.. These two are actually making headlines recently... They are making some blockbusters recently...

Yes, A lot of people will watch a movie with Arnie and Stallone BUT do I want to Wear what they wear in 2016? Do I want to look like them. Hell no.

That was a good looking 305 Dwayne Johnson was wearing in San Andreas. :)

Saw two more in the news reports last night, (one was a 24 sub, on the arm of the person showing and using the new $400.00 usd Dyson Hair Dryer), and one of the panel on Shark Tank was wearing a Luminor with a very good looking strap.
Now when I see three in one evening, no, they aren't fading. If anything, they are becoming more common. Grrrrrrr!!! Which for me, is worse!
I enjoyed no one knowing what they were. The next thing you know, I will be sitting down in a coffee shop, and some one will be asking, "Is That Real"? Just like I get when I wear one of my Rollies. I have both Gen. and Rep. Pams, and Gen. Rollies.

I'm a big Man, wear jeans and a black "T" or Multi pocket Khaki type shirt most days, and wear black combat boots. (Expensive Danners at that). LOL guess I don't look like a Wall St. type.
One patron gave me a hard time recently, insisting I was wearing a Fake Rolex. I had him google my name and put knifeMaker behind it. Within minutes, he said, "Oop's Sorry Sir! I had "No Idea". "Did you know that you're famous?
Yep, sure am. "Guess it's real then". Yep, Sure is! "Probably cheaper than some of your Knives". Yep!

I NEVER get this when wearing a Pam. Gen or Rep. and I appreciate the lack of the hastle!

Why in heavens name should I buy a 8k watch just because I have seen that brand in a movie?
I wear PAM's because I love the look of the watches and the (short) history of that brand.

You got it! Saw my first pam in a Movie titled Eraser. A DLC Luminor. Had "NO" Idea what it was, but was intrigued. Searched everywhere to find out what it was, and bingo, A PAM fan ever since.

Besides, I live in the middle of "No Where" Texas. Other than going to Large Knife Shows in different Cities around the Globe, I probably would Never have seen one. They just aren't that big on Cattle Ranches! LOL!!! :)

I was the Authorized Sales Agent for Rolex in Central Texas for a few years for a Large Jewelry Co. If that means anything to ya. Now Rolex is a different animal in Texas altogether. Here, they are known as "The Texas Timex". Common as dirt here! ;)

What does it matter where you saw one, as long as you saw one and paid attention? In answer to your question Chris, why in Hell would you buy anything if you have never seen it, or heard of it? Regardless of where? Sounds a bit of a shallow question to me! Utterly naive.

I didn't buy one because it was in a movie. I bought one because I saw one, was intrigued, researched, and made a purchase. I wanted it, and bought it. My money, my watch! And if I see another one that I like, I may very well buy it as well.
Even if seen on a Big Screen or a small screen cruising REP forums! It's not like Rep forums are the ONLY place to fall in love with a brand! ------Questions? Saw a few at F-1 Races as well. Is that ok with you Chris?

I think the point was that the whole ambassodor thing is an advertisement technique that was more effective a few years ago, and in any case imho it works better with a non WIS audience. I for one have never factored that Sly was a Panerai ambassador in my buying choices, or Di Caprio who did the same for Tag Heuer, or Bond for Omega for that matter.

That is not what this thread was about. Not from the first. Unless someone made it so later one. .

Sly, Arnie, and a few or the others are serious Custom Knife Collectors. The World I life in. You can see work by several of us in their movies. Never advertized it. But people notice, and it helps. (Well, the Late Jimmy Lile did for the Rambo Movies) Gil Hibben made some of them for the later Rambo movies as well.

So do we makers pay attention to my bread and butter? You Bet! And will continue to do so. Regardless of who on a forum approves or not. Its' the way things work in the real world.

Unless one is on the boat for the new trend of "Anti Capitalism" here in the U.S. along with much of the western world and jumped head over heels onto the boat of Social/Communism.

Panerai has certainly faded from the heights that it was at. It was such a niche watch when it stormed on to the major watch scene early 2000/2002 years and with the limited production in conjunction with a small range available during those years, you really did feel that you were wearing something truely special. That is not the case now, with the ever expanding range and the ever increasing price tags, they now just linger in AD's windows, along with the breitlings and tag heuers.

I think if ever a watch company got its philosphy all wrong and thought bigger was better, then Panerai is the example not to follow. I do not think they will ever get back to the glory days, such a shame for a watch brand that really did shake up the watch market .

Guilty as charged! Nearly all the brands I gravitate to were first seen on celebrities in a movie or on TV. Outright ambassadorship don't get me as much as the subliminal effects of product placement. Ive just bought a couple of IWC and Breitling because villainous Frank Underwood and Doug Stamper wear them on House of Cards. I've even bought a few boutique brands because I saw them on two-bit actors on TV! [emoji1]

Wow I never thought this would get to 10 pages. Some interesting points of view and thoughts I had not considered.

I I think the brand has a lot of exposure in Hollywood and pro sports. It's definitely marketed itself to those in the public eye. But they are for surely becoming cookie cutter type of company. And their prices for cheaper products have skyrocketed. I will probably always wear panerai, but more and more I like the classic models over the new ones.

That would not be difficult sir, the wait for even a SS Daytona is a hell of a lot shorter than your waiting list as well. I'd love one of your knives but paying for it is the easy part :)

Your right TB. Sadly, tragedy struck, and I had to retire medically. Still had over 10 years worth of orders on the book, from all over the globe. Sad really, as I loved it so much!

Luckily, most here have no idea who I am, and that is probably best in the long run.
One Poster posted that those were lovely Loveless's in the avatar. LOL!!! ;), probably should remove it. Just like seeing them.

He (RIP) had a snap-On roller stack unit in his tiny office, with every drawer full of Rolex, IWC. Omega, you name it. One was sent to me upon his passing. I cherish it very much.

Knife!
