Definitely my thoughts guys! I am glad this topic is here.
I have been a huge fan of PAMs back in 2004-2009, had pretty much every possible rep that was available then, including some holy grails at the time like first EL 1950, Honpo 187, first 029 with decorated 2892 etc etc.
Ended up getting a genuine 112 as I wanted more of what reps could not offer at that time (lume, movement finish, even crowns used to be too skinny in reps and we had to get replacements from Lelloo).
The gen 112 got sold at some point, replaced by gen 116520 Daytona and I have to say I did not really miss the pam.
A few months back I decided to get into Panerai again and bought a current 112 rep.
Wow I was blown away. Amazing how far reps of PAMs have gone over last few years. Correct lume, correct crowns, beautiful crown guards, very nicely finished movements that now pretty much all they miss is polish on the edges of movement wheels (close enough for me). Who needs a genuine of basic model now, I for sure would not go gen again, the rep is just as good for literally fraction of the price.
As for new gen models, I feel panerai is going way too far away from its roots and history. Most new gens look like reps to be honest. Way too overpriced as well.
I mean look at this tourbillon:
PAM 350, listed for sale at 120k usd! Looks like a cheap 21j skeleton fake tourby rep. Is that still panerai?
