Wow, this forum is the best argument not to go into fake watches. Rolex should make a campaign with you guys.
Hey @Pauli551 just a quick question... ok make that two questions. What kind of Porsche do you drive and how much do you pay in taxes?

Why pay extra for movement optimizations before the watch travels around the globe and things can get damaged? Taking OPs watch as an example, he would have payed an 'extra hundred bucks' but the watch would probably be not in significant better state?
Because it can save you from headaches of sending it back for repairs. Just my opinion. Every watch I had serviced works great. And this one a Pam with clone movement was dead in arrival. And sadly no one here can or wants to work on them. So this way its a insurance to make sure its all there and cleaned lubed and water proofed. Again its only because most watchsmiths can only works on rep Rolex movement or ETA Clones. Rest is a no go. Again this is from personal experience. I like the piece of mind I get knowing its good for a while.

You just stated the reason why I personally don't buy watches with cloned proprietary movements, whether it's Rolex, AP, Panerai, Omega, or any other brand.

If one of my watches, GEN or replica, needs service, I know that an ETA, Sellita, Miyota, or Seiko can be serviced anywhere in the world without running into a wall or getting a door slammed into my face. As far as Panerai goes, anything that starts with a P is a no-go for me, always has been. That's why I'm such a fan of vintage Panerai; even the highly-modified 7750 in the Bronzo makes me uneasy.

In all fairness to the hobby, however, a plain service of a GEN luxury watch is usually way more expensive than purchasing a replica of such model, so in the end it's a win-win.

When there isn't a possibility to have a service locally, I can understand. But I have doubts if a Chinese service reduces the likelihood of a DOA in the following transit. I guess DOA comes from heavy impacts which can't be avoided by a movement service. But just my opinion - I can't proof it technically.
