Did you epoxy the insert? I've a feeling that is what that guy does on ebay with the GMT ones. I was going to try that in my copious spare time :lol:

@NCRich, epoxy crossed my mind, but I thought it would be a radical step. So I just experimented with a simple clear acrylic epoxy spray paint.

I keep trying to capture the experience of this dial, here you see three different effects. The first is the shimmer of the gilt, second is the gloss of the dial and third is the star dust effect from the tiny imperfections of the dial. As Bart said, "totally unexpected"... And yet there it is. There are a few more effects this dial produces at different angles and light.

Thanks brother. It's an MQ that's been ages naturally in humid condition for years - basically stimulate the same aging as a natural patina of 50+ years except sped up a little bit - this dial sat around for about 6 years. I paid quite a bit for it but very much worth it to me to get the unique look.
