I got a Lb. of Starbucks espresso beans. A grinder, and broke out my french press. Mmm.

This is some strong stuff. Cocaine is illegal... why?

Machines, valves, dials, pressure tanks, minute timers, ....... just to extract the humble flavor from a little bean ? My trusty 32 oz. 'percolator' has not failed me for generations. It still brews coffee so strong that your spoon stands up upright in your cup !! :coffee: ....Ramblings from an old foghorn..........

It's summertime now and cold brew is all the rage. Generally I've been an iced coffee drinker when the weather warms up but now I'm experimenting with cold brew. Apparently it's not acidic as hot coffee yet it produces a slightly higher yield of caffeine, don't know if true but that's what they say. Currently in the middle of a 20 hour steep so we'll see in a day or two after it's been chilled.

This gives me plenty of time now to go cut down 3 pine trees in the yard, that will show the squirrels who is boss. :king:

This thread needed a jolt

I'm a big pour over guy. I like the bonmac cones for their simplicity. If you keep the coffee bed low, and add water in small doses it can produce a really solid cup.

I love coffee, my daily brew (6+ cups a day) is my trusty Starbucks Verona k-cups! My machine makes a better cup IMO than the local Starbucks can.

I, too, am a coffee lover and/or addict (depending on the day).

My setup consist of a Breville espresso machine and burr grinder, a Hamilton Beach 12 cup drip coffee maker (for when we have guests), and various Bodum french press.

I'm now on the lookout for an Aeropress and I'd like to try a cold brew infusion setup someday!

Been using an Aeropress for years now, but just recently started brewing with a French press. I like the extra oils that come through with the press - gives it a much richer flavor.

I'm going to have to ty the pour-over method ... see how that compares.

Nice thread - surprised i have never seen it before. I am actually about to buy a machine in the next month or so. My father has the Jura at home and it makes a decent cappucino, but my only issue is that the machine sucks in the milk, froths it internally, and then releases the milk into the cup first, followed by the expresso. Dont get me wrong, it taste good, but i dont think that is how it should be.

I am currently looking at getting this machine, has anyone tried this one out yet? Would love to hear feedback:

For those who use a French press, how coarse a grind do you use, and how long do you let it steep before you press it?

Just used the Aeropress again this morning. It makes a really good cup of coffee, but it is a lot of work for only one cup of coffee. I'm going to have to dig out that French press soon.

metal filter and inverted method means way more oils in a shorter "espresso style" drink than a french press will give you
