OK, I'll play.

I destroyed two espresso machines, this one the latest:

BabyD_main-1.jpg

So I went back to basics: the Melitta system that got me into good coffee while a starving college student.

This time I also bought a decent burr grinder and a good electic kettle. Here's the station, with the sink on the right and on the wall is a water color drawn by a family member:

Here's the equipment (Breville kettle, Bodum grinder, Melitta system):

Water is filtered through a charcoal element. Beans are kept in the conatiner on the right. Makes pretty good coffee, IMHO.

I dont think i can go a full day without having atleast 3-4 good espresso's, and when i say good i mean good. I spent the past 3 years mixing different blends of beans and and have gone through countless amounts of machines untill i finally got 2 that are perfectly tuned for my needs... yes i said 2, and both of them are in my kitchen. 1 is primarily for espresso and lattes and the other makes a killer capp...

these are what im using right now.

I've been using a Gaggia Cap x2 for the last few years, excellent machine, but not much change out of £1200

Another coffee freak here, I drink 5-6 cups a day. I would drink more if I could but at some point the shaking starts. :)

Our everyday beans are "Blue Butterfly" (Papillon Bleu) from Guadalupe, which in my opinion is at least as good as the Blue Mountain from Jamaica (if not better), but only costs a quarter of its price.

Coffee maker is a Jura ENA 7, which is more than enough for what we need to do since we have no interest in fancy drinks like lathes and other cappuccinos.

I've just received some new beans from a supplier on amazon, 1kg bags £10-12. I've bought the blue mountain blend before and they excellent, not as good as the wallenford estate ones that I've just finished, the Mysore ones are a new try for me so look forward to them.

Have you got a link to the beans you talk about Wiz, would be interested in trying them if you recon they are as good as Wallenford estate blue mountain.

+1 one for "analog" coffee. Its the best way to brew in my opinion.
I used to make coffee with a French press every day until I visited a local roastery a while back. I saw a strange looking plastic thing the barista used to brew a single cup for a customer. I asked about it and I got a typical coffee nerds lecture about the science of coffee making and a sample cup made with the thing. The revolutionary thing was called called the Aeropress. The cup was magical. I had thought that the French press was the best thing for making a simple cup. Apparently I was wrong. The aeropress gives you total control on the brew if you want to. Are there any other users onboard?

Well, if you're as much of a coffee junkie as I am, you sure know there is blue mountain and blue mountain. :) For £12 the kilo I can't even imagine what's in the bag.

Sure you can find a bargain once in a while, but if a guy manages to sell blue mountain at that price all year long, you can be sure something is wrong.

Here is a link to a website that sells Blue Butterfly, basilcally £40 the kilo, which is pretty much alright compared to proper Blue Mountain which costs £100-150 the kilo.

Very nice machine Wiz. I have an ENA 5. Spent a fair deal of time calibrating the grind ect. I'm kind of a coffee snob due to my work. Among other things I repair the FRANKE Sinfonia MUT units that McDonalds is currently using for their McCafe menu. That machine is truly a Swiss masterpiece.

McDonalds shot standard is a little under extracted by my tastes but this machine makes a perfect cappuccino and latte 100% of the time for half the cost of anywhere else.

They really did their due diligence on this venture. It truly makes a quality product.

I wish I could afford a $25k coffee machine!

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled programming. ;)

Thanks for the link I'll check them out, yeh I was quite dubious of the £12 blue mountain 1kg beans but they aren't too bad, but night and day in taste from proper Wallenford estate.

These are the ones I've just finished, £35 for 454g, and from the Wallenford estate, beautiful coffee.

Kind of like the french press but the coffee goes directly into your cup. One reason I don't use the press as often is the mess of disposing the grounds. If you use the disposable filter it may be less messy? I see they have a permanent filter option, too.

Anyway, thanks. I may buy one just for fun. :)

Yeah, try it mate. Can't go wrong with the price.
Here's a real coffee geeks recipe for a near perfect iced coffee done with the aeropress. http://coffeegeek.com/guides/aeropresscoldbrew
Drank a pint of this cause its finally summer here and :eek: it's rocketfuel! Used maple syrup to sweeten it a little. I used monsoon malabar as the beans, grinder set to finest.

I am a huge Aeropress freak. On fight nights I'll spend half an hour or so making everyone a coffee with my two aeropresses. Every Saturday morning is a trip to my local roaster for freshly roasted beans.

The cold brew omg... wimmy-wham-wham-wozzle! (Slurms McKenzie, r.i.p.)

Best anything I have ever owned made of plastic ever.

Even if I could own a Clover (dream on) I'd totally still be using an Aeropress more than half of the time.

Aeropress!!!
