I really wanted a very subtle effect of yellowing and the watercolour pencils allow me to progress to that in a very limited and marked way until I'm happy. The Raffles dial - as others have said - is very forgiving - I cannpt speak for Yuki or Ruby but my understanding is thry are far more fragile so take care.

how do you use those pencils? you dab them in water and use straight on?
Yep, you have a little palette of water and scrub the pencils in it to make the paint and dab it on.

Remember this horror show?

The crucial thing is how long you leave the dial before rinsing away the excess paint under a running cold water tap to leave only the coloured lume - to the extent that you want it.

Now, disclaimer - this is a Raffles dial - I haven't tried this on a Ruby or Yuki and according to the old boys on this thread like 1016Lover and 369mafia - it seems those dials are not so tolerant so I would approach those very cautiously.

The end result is something I'm pleased with but the approach must be applicable to the dial - Raffles, Yuki, Ruby et al. - one approach does not fit all.

You did a matt coting to fix the result?

I fix it with the furniture polish.
Once I'm happy with the colour hue of both the dial and hands I dry everything slowly and then "fix" the colour with a wipe of Furniture Polish (Pledge - here in the UK, it has natural bee's wax and other water stain removers) to stabalise everything and restore the matte black dial and eliminate any water stains around the indices.

I spray the polish onto a piece of blue roll, wipe it swiftly across the dial, or rub the hands though a piece on the bench and then, again, wait a few moments and use a dry piece of blue roll to wipe away the excess.
Then use a blower to finally dry up and clean up.

you dab it on with a brush or directly with the pencils?
I am not at the stage of using expensive parts 😁 stock JKF or Raffles is about as far as I will go for now

very interesting approach, you find this process by experimentation?

Just want to add again I have only tried this approach on the Raffles dial - which I believe uses a two pack paint on both the matte black and lettering - so has some resillience to the water risnses and, more importantly, the ingredients of the furniture polish which includes some alcohol.
The Ruby and Yuki dials - from what I have seen here appear to be far less resillient.

Thanks. I'm about to try on yuki hands. I'm not sure if it will dissolve in water.

You should be okay with hands. Just let things dry thoroghly between applications until you get the hue you're after. Don't use any heat directly to dry.
Good luck - looking forward to seeing the results.

Yeah. I'll try soon as yuki hands arrives. I hope Faber-Castell work as well as C'aran Dache.🥲

Mix it up on a plate with a little water until you get the colour you want. Place the hands spanning some rodico or soft surface and use the softest brush you have to lick the hands with the paint keeping pressure to an absolute minimum.

Also If you have a result of coloring it ivory, can you show me?
