Sorry about the hair caught by the end-link on the left.

You know what they say (Karbon)
Better a hair on the outside than on the inside. ;)

In your case I would guess a dial, but that's on top. So it will be fresh eggs? Will you ever solve the mystery?

I like it! What are your concerns? Is it a Raffle dial?
As 316 said-it’s aservice dial. The coronet is small the Rolex text is small. It doesn’t shout its presence as a Rolex.
But it does have harmony and it does have a really nice feel to it.
It’s a service dial.
Yes, it’s raffles and it was made with direct feedback from this thread to raffles.

You put that next to a gold Daytona (with diamond Indices) - and you'd be forgiven for thinking that the two watches were made by completely different manufacturers - and, in many ways, so many ways - you'd be right.
The Explorer was the last great watch made by Rolex.
It's National Geographic advertising memories. It's robust confidence in the product. It's every piece of design perfection, mechanical Engineering and grace and beuty of function rolled in to one - at it's nadir and. IMHO, has - and never can be - bettered.

I like the dial and currently collection parts for a new 1016 project. This lookes like s a early explorer (service dial). Mark 1 or Mark2, correct? I think I will order it. Is there a alternative I should look?
Are there any other recommendations from you? My wishes are:
  • Matt
  • no valid dial
  • slightly yellow digits
  • I always thought of Mark 3 (because it would match my year of birth).

Here is a little bit of service dial info...
https://explorer1016.com /matte/service- dials/
Close the spaces.

I have compared a couple nos 1016 'triti' dials with a nos 'tritinova' dial with T<25 at the bottom and to tell the truth, it is hard for me to tell the difference.
I can usually spot an old genuine dial with old fuzzy markers compared to a replica fuzzy marker dial though. Most of the time.
'Fuzzy markers' = the marker lume is out of bounds and not smooth around the edges.

Here are a couple genuine 1016 dials on eBay with good pics:
eBay item number: 205235041211
eBay item number: 176627605375

Watch trader tricks for vintage watches:
If the dial is sorta ratty, scratch the crystal a little bit so it does not show as much.
If the watch tends to run and stop...lay it in the sun for a little while to soften the oil scum up, sell it quick, and take off.

Typos are free.
Watch trader tricks are a dime a dozen.

Isn’t that just one of the most insanely beautiful things you’ve ever seen?
