So, new 1016 RWI dials came in. I have resolved the sizing being too large. Looks about right. Yes, I know I used new style hands, don't hate me, this is a fantasy build after all. But there's something else about these dials which is special... Can you see what it is?

some are tall, some are short... the one in the case looks like the infamous "bart simpson"?

dials that turn tropical are gilt dials due to some varnish that was used in the early days

the tropical Yuki dial doesnt have the gilt text :(
Great remark! Thank you for enlightening me.

Quick question...and I considered posting it in the Tudor or Vintage section, but figured most of the innovative builders visit here more often, so forgive me yet another off-topic query:

When we build a Rolex around a 2824 or NH38, a date window overlay must be used to align the date with the cyclops. On a Tudor build, which uses a 2824 in gen, what do we do about lining up the crystal so the cyclops aligns with the stock 2824 date wheel?

I can't seem to find Tudor specific crystals in the usual spots, only ones for Rolex, which have the cyclops correct for the 15XX or 10XX Rolex movement, but wrong for the 2824.

I'm building a Tudor with a gen case, dial, and hands, but using an A2824 movement, which was correct for the gen, and the date doesn't line up correctly. I even swapped the complete date wheel with one using the correct Tudor font (serifs), but don't want to randomly order crystals hoping to find the right one.

Good question and I can provide some insight here. Let's take a look at the 1680 specifically as an example just for fun.

What's the difference between those two? Well, that first one with the more yellow lume has a date window spaced to be compatible with a 2824 or NH35 movement. The second one is more interesting, and has a gen date wheel position. You do have to install a gen datewheel over the top of your stock datewheel with hypo cement or dial dots (seriously dial dots actually work fine). Now, you do have to make sure your magnifier is correct on the crystal, which may mean getting a gen spec crystal or one that works with an NH or 2824 movement. Case in point, the following image. Guess which is gen spec, and which is the non-gen spec date position? Both use "vintage" style silver datewheels. The open 6/9 is a bit of a giveaway however!

What crystal you pick depends completely on which datewheel position you pick! The NH one is simply a modified Tiger Concepts watch with the crystal in position for the NH movement (non-gen spec date window position).

This is correct. The new dials are DOUBLE SIDED so you get a Sub / Explorer dial combo on the same dial. This should allow people for maximum flexibility for builders. They are now sized 28.5mm as well.
You got me, I'm in for another 5 when you offer them. Working through my 1016 and 5500 builds, and next up will be a focus on GMT or Submariners for a while.
