Thanks @Feefo and @daytona4me
for the badge 😁

thanks to the 1016 squad. It's true that this thread has become the Club for vintage modding.
I actually found myself reading a load of threads on reddit a few were quoting this thread. Maybe it was members from here, but it did make me laugh. I was like "I know those guys" haha

I've just spent the last hour (thanks a lot @Karbon74 😂) buying a load of parts including cases, movements hands and dials. The journey starts here properly, and I have you lot to blame. Even bought a new tool! How fun.

Tempted to buy an 1016 build that someone has already done for reference. If anyone spots one, DM me!

Picked up a Tudor 34mm case on Ebay for a decent price, so will be adding this to my 34mm Explorer collection. It's possibly a fantasy watch, but Tudor had so damn many variations on their models that it quite possibly exists in gen. There's lots that are close, at any rate.

This dial is sort of a DIY hybrid of the Ranger, Oyster Prince and Explorer, although all the art was found originally on gens.

I'll make it up in gilt and hope for the best. Have to source some Tudor-like shovel hands now...

A little off topic, but these are the possible sources that I have found. (I was looking recently.) The trick is not only the correct shape, but also the correct length. Some appear to be for recent variations of the Ranger, not the vintage 34mm ones.

Raffles TIME has them, and lists the length, but out of stock for ETA:
https://rafflestime.com/yellow-meta...orer-sub-diver-watch-style-for-eta-2824-2836/
Again, Raffles TIME, but in stock for NH3x:
https://rafflestime.com/dirty-yello...er-sub-diver-style-watch-for-seiko-7s26-nh35/
This eBay seller lists the length, but I don't know the length of the gen 34 mm hands (yet), and they might be longer than the Raffles TIME hands:

This one is out of stock, but the shape looks good. No idea about length:
https://www.watchlume.com/WATCH-HAN...s-steel-hand-set-white-lume-ETA-cal-2824-2784
Yuki has hands for the Ranger 9050, which is 34mm:

Hope this helps!

This is an option, too, which exists in gen...and it takes Mercedes hands, so they'd be easier to source. Love the green patina on the gen hands, maybe some copper in the mix somewhere?:

Drop some copper in a jar of muriatic acid. It will get you plenty of green. From there, you could neutralize it and use the powder or soup to mix with the lume. Probably much safer options though if you don't need a lifetime supply of green patina.

Just be very careful using undiluted muriatic acid. The fumes alone will make any nearby steel start to rust almost instantly.

Yes, I was thinking along those lines, although I figured salt water and copper might be a less hazardous combination...although I'm not sure if it will actually work.

Would be nice to see legit gold hands on an "Explorer" though.
