They did such a nice job on these dials they look so good I was really impressed with it in hand.Gold paint - no “raised” letters, even under the loupe. It’s actually very good (to my eye, at least). It will do very nicely until I find a true gilt dial - just waiting for the gilt dial “DIY” threads to begin offering some of their excess dials
I think its more of a comparison to NOS stock to heavily worn , overpolished example. I have not seen another rolex dj or other with a shape like that. it almost looks like an old omega case to me

Yes, but really haven't done much with it. I have to create some cliches before I can really test it out.
Got a little impatient today and threw together my 6098. It’s a reject dial that I lumed, AliX hands, and an unmodified Raffles case with a nh38 inside.
It’s not perfect, but it’s getting close, and probably better than some of the bad factory reps.

Looks great though. I believe the gen Datejust case is one of the best options for 1016.
Every now and then I’ll see an image like this and fall in line with the 1016 all over again… and we don’t even know who designed it

Well, the very first Explorer - kind of - was 1959 and the great Hans Wilsdorf died in 1960.Every now and then I’ll see an image like this and fall in line with the 1016 all over again… and we don’t even know who designed it
I like to think he might have made a few scetches on paper of "an ew watch he was thinking of" - looked at them - figured his work was done and made his way in to the realms of Eternal Time.
