I have always wondered about the flank of the lugs.
Do they have a swell? or do they go flat at the end?

this looks like there is a slight swell

Very gentle radius. But it's one of the first things that gets flattened by years of use and the odd injudicial polishing by a watchsmith.

Okay, just a little something that may be of use to someone.

The bivintage case isn't countersunk quite enough to capture the small pendant tube thread entirely so I decided to remove the pendant tube I Loctited (blue) into the case with a view to a little additional countersinking. I also thought to use the Rolex metal gasket from another case, blue again.

The fix which allowed removal without damage to the pendant tube or gasket was to slip a pointed soldering iron into the end of the tube and allow to heat 'til I could just feel warmth in the case surrounding the tube.

After which I popped a plastic tweezer over the large tube tread and held that with a small set of Knipex multi grips and just screwed the whole ensemble out.
Worked like a charm with no effort and no damaged parts...and did not affect the T21 crystal.

If I understand correctly, the plastic tweezer grip the tube on the external thread and force is applied on the plastic with the pliers?

myself, i remove the tube gasket and then use a square needle file from the inside.

So I just received my “1985” 1016 by @369mafia. Jon was extremely helpful since day one, walked me through different periods of the 1016, colors of lume, patina etc. he was right on time, giving me feedback and kept me updated and now I have this beaty on my wrist. Thank you Jon

After spending far too many hours reading and rereading this thread, I decided to go for a quick Raffles build to test the waters and see if I’d like a 1016. (I know, what’s not to like?)

Parts:
  • Raffles acrylic case
  • Raffles dial w/white lume
  • Raffles hands
  • Raffles bracelet
  • Sellita SW200-1b no date
Originally received the wrong dial from Raffles, which he graciously offered to replace after the lunar new year break. Once that arrived, I waited a couple more weeks for the movement. Unfortunately in my haste, I didn’t get a great before/during picture, but here’s the build:

So far it’s “good enough”! I’m surprised at how much I like the 36mm size. I finally get it - the Exp1 is really this sweet spot of dial/case proportion that makes it work at 36mm.

Although it’s just the Raffles stock acrylic crystal, I love how it has less reflections than a flat sapphire with no AR. That said I still want to find a proper domed crystal, but have been having a hard time figuring out which one is most suitable.

I’d say the tweaks I’ll probably attempt are to get a better hands with a better lume match (raffles hands leave a lot to be desired), a domed crystal, and sorting out some water resistance. Since I’ve read here that raffles glues in the crystal and tube, I’m definitely hesitant on my usual carefreeness around sinks and showers with this build 😅

The wife has indicated that she prefers this 1016 as the NOS look and has forbidden me from tumbling it in a sack of screws in the dryer 🤣

I've purchased the gen 16030 case for the new 1016 project. I need to find a suitable bezel as there isn't one, and I'm considering whether to use WSO or something else... And will a 1601 bezel or a 1016 bezel fit the 16000 case?

Ask @1016 lover his custom are perfect
Yeah 1016lover's bezel is also excellent. However the side shape of the bezel is bit thin and sharp, making it closer to the bezel for the 15000 case. This is my build using 1016L bezel. Because the rehaut was sanded by 0.4mm, the thin bezel was suitable.
The above is a 1016L bezel with Raffles case, and the below is a gen 15000 case.
