I actually have a pretty nice Stihl chainsaw...bought it to cut down a tree in my backyard, and one for a girl I was trying to impress. Other than that, it's been sitting unused for 8 years, lol.
Just a quick Disclaimer; don't be tempted to chainsaw down any old tree. It must be hardwood - and if you can, Oak.
Here in the UK most Oak trees are protected - which is great and how it should be - this one came down in a storm.
Use a Softwood anvil at your peril - you'll be forever picking pices of it from the end of your tweezers and out of your movements. Stuff of nightmares.

It must be Hardwood.

Thanks, I wouldn’t have considered that…plus the sap associated with soft wood like pine…

Every time we have a wind storm, I always say I’m going to cut up fallen trees in the neighborhood, but never get around to it…

Lol, working on dials this week. I really think I have the waterslide thing all debugged. Printing up some at work, going to make them up later.

Mostly working on the Everest project and some 34mm dials.

Also printed up some 6200/5513 3-6-9 dials, to keep with the 3,6,9 theme, and for something to do with the Ali/Ebay no CG cases I picked up to play with.

snapped my first crystal today doing a stupid metal moonswatch. Those Ali cases are really very disparate in quality

Also, I finished the 5513 I was working on.
I had to file the insert both outside and inside. It's not my best work but I am hapoy with it

Good brothers. Well done.
When this thread goes quiet it means we've all got our heads down in to some solid work.
I'm doing a dial that will carry sub-seconds for a watch I'm making for a family member. I'm going to place it in a 36 EXP case.
It's rough work at the moment but very ambitious as I want to include not only engine-turning but enamelling.

Just a bit of round brass at the moment but there's a vision . . .

Glad we're all busy doing stuff.

A little pause in the action for photos:

Gen case, DIY dial made from multiple techniques I learned here (left) va Raffles case and dial (right, with springboard) 6429 Commando:

And the current (v12.2 or something, lol) 6098 Everest in a Raffles case.

when I put my 5513 build on sale, I was reflecting on the irony of a hobby.

In my line of work, I can make $500, even $1000 in specific circumstances, for an hour adhoc consulting work. Here I priced probably 10h worth of time for 125€ 😅

UPDATE ON POST!

My daughter just purchased a 1016 case set from Bivintage and had no issues. I am posting this change to his ebay feedback and my post to ensure fairness.

Fair is fair.

Make sure to message bivintage, as he can request a revision of the feedback and remove that negative feedback. Tell him you want to revise your feedback as just a few pieces of negative piece of feedback for an eBayer that size is really bad.

If you are skilled enough to do watch modding like we do, you are likely skilled enough to do something else for significantly higher profit. Plus, it's not like people are pumping out 20 of these a week.
My girlfriend had a similar observation, paraphrased as "Just think how rich you'd be, if you put the same effort into producing counterfeit money as you do with counterfeit watches."

I take quite a lot of pride in acquiring some skill over the past 9 months. And I have a lot of gratitude to you guys (and those of the 5513 thread) too for it.
I just realized that you and I started on this forum around the same time. I think we both found the fast track to obsession, as well, lol.

Horology is definitely scraping a living - whatever you're doing; servicing or making.

Unless you get a bit of luck and invent something exceptional - like;

John Harrison (Bi-Metallic Strip - temperature compensation),
Thomas Mudge (Lever-Escapement),
John Harwood (Automatic Winding),
Thomas Prest (Keyless Works),
John Whitehurst (Centre Seconds),
Henry Sully (Oil Sink Jewels),
Thomas Young (The Chronograph)

and sell those to the highest bidder.

*Note; all of those are British Watchmakers - so I'm hanging on to that in desperate hope of coming up with something "exceptional" before I keel over and curl my toes up.

He would fit right in here on this Thread.
Yeah, sometimes I think this may have STARTED as a 1016 unappreciated thread, but it's evolved into a casual lounge where the truly passionate modders hang out and discuss whatever builds they're working on, which don't always mean a 1016, lol. There's a couple others that come close, but this is the center of the RWI modding universe.

And it's become the first thing I catch up on when I log onto the internet.
