Well done dpd. Keeping the dream alive . . .
Yes, right out of the box. I was going to hit it wtih a light layer of clear spray, to give it a little texture, but it actually has a really nice texture as is. I had planned on doing a little more aging, but got off to a late start and wanted to finish it before I went to bed, so it got a little rushed at the end. That said, the dial is gorgeous, with a subtle semi-gloss, textured black, and nice contrast between the white and off-white text. I will probably just dust it with some of the Tamiya "model make up" to even out the hands, maybe lightly age the hands, and leave it be. I just need to find the right strap for it.Looks Sweet Dpd is that a raffles dial ?

I'll take it apart today and remove the dial spacer ring (never used one before, but figured Raffles wouldn't include it unless it was important, lol), trim the stem (that's just a crown screwed into the case, there's no stem in the watch) and consider it done.
I really never appreciated how much case finishing and a better crystal improves a watch...the Clark's crystal immediately popped when I opened the package, and it's miles ahead of the stock Raffles crystal.
I'll snap some better photos when I work on it tonight (as in, better light, less reflection, and a proper camera, rather than a cell phone).
I got a call from a friend today clearing out an old mate's workshop (he was a Marine Electronics Engineer) saying that he had a small but very beautiful looking old lathe there and did I want it as "You do watchmaking and it looks like that sort of thing?"
I said yes please. I tried to draw him on Make, Stamps on it, etc but he just said he wasn't sure - it just looks very old and beautifully made.
I'm going to collect it in the morning and I'm having trouble containing my excitement even though every bone in my body tells me to prepare for disappointment.
We shall see.
I think even a very old, very limited lathe would open up a lot of possibilites. Just make sure it's a metal lathe (lower speed, higher torque) and not a wood lathe (higher speed, lower torque) before you try to turn a chunk of stainless steel!I got a call from a friend today clearing out an old mate's workshop (he was a Marine Electronics Engineer) saying that he had a small but very beautiful looking old lathe there and did I want it as "You do watchmaking and it looks like that sort of thing?"

I've been looking at them on Amazon, but the cheapest they realistically get is about $500, and they're not rated terribly well. I hope to happen upon something used online, but I figure patience is going to be required.
I concur, I like the color and the semi gloss somehow and left it as is.
this explains the process and so much more

For 28xx movements, I just buy Seagull $75 and you have a great movement with no issues of quality
So I guess the solution is still the standard double sided tape. Hmm.
Curious to see how it holds up overtime.
I have a spare NH movement that I might test to see if I can use the dial feet holes and DIY new dial feet positions for the ETA based dial I’m using…
For this reason I use silicon glue which remains flexible.keep us updated.
personallly, I have not dabbled with dial feet yet. IMHO double side tape, when applied with care, tend to grow more solid over time than to loosen up.
rafflesdials are meant for miyotas or etas.I used a 2824, but I have a couple NH35/NH38 from Ali that I plan to use in some upcoming builds. I think the Raffles dials have feet for both, unless the 38 is different than the 35,
