sorry to come back on topic 😅
I have a question.

I think I read that some of you buy the sapphire crystal version of the Raffles case, as it's easier to take off ? Is that a thing?
When I removed the acrylic crystal on mine, it had been glued solid.
Yah, I purchased the SC version of the 2824 Raffles on account of the fact that no glue was involved and it can wear an acrylic or a SC according to my mood!

Come on lads - let's see those "On-The-Side" shots.
The old "Sunday Night Kitchen Shot Club" has gone the way of all things - this is the new one.

It's important to get a deal quickly!! (Since I'm a poor college student and have to save money for the next 1016 build..) It would be nice if a 1016 member bought it.
that is a very good price but needs a stem and who knows how well it runs and if its missing parts other than stem

still worth it even if you have to service

That's a bit overpriced. The price is no joke, even though it's not a gen case. And looking at the movement again.....yeah. There's no stem. Even if the description says there's no problem, how can I believe that?
It also seems difficult to get a Railmaster dial. I can't understand why they discontinued it and made a Ranchero dial instead.

Didn't we talk about the Railmaster build last time? VintageMQ sells cases. It might be a bit expensive...but 2914 is also a fabulously elegant watch, it wouldn't be bad to seriously make it.
Since the Omega 284 movement is about $150 on ebay... it could be fun.

What's the deal with that steel dial surround? Is it integral with the dial or the rehaut?
I like it's "Industrialist" look - almost like it's built like a steam train.

I'm ebarrassed to say, I missed a great opportunity. I wasn't terribly passionate about watches at the time, and while I had a couple Rolex, I didn't "get" the Explorer in the way I do now. I will say one thing...if I ever do it again, I'd damn sure have an Explorer on both wrists, lol.

I wore a Garmin, lol. Which, to be honest, was a lot more practical of a choice. It did allow me to log the activity, which was cool.

I think I packed my Speedmaster for when we went out on the way there and back, but I don't think I even put it on the whole trip.

I did not summit, however. I trekked to Base Camp, and didn't go any higher. Everest is almost 30,000 feet, the highest we went was just shy of 18,000 feet. To go any higher would have been a couple years of training and probably another $100,000, with no guarantees of even having the opportunity to climb, due to weather and logistical concerns, and a very real possibility of death or serious injury. Base Camp was the sweet spot for return on investment, lol.

That said, lemme clog up the thread with a few photos so you all can get a little taste of the Hillary Experience, lol.
wow! what an achievement :) Im sure you had a lot of other things on your mond as wel but i find the shots of the night sky particularly imperessive... gives me some perspective.
