Getting ready to enjoy a dram of Glenmorangie now. Getting back into whisky after a decade or more of avoiding the stuff and sticking with bourbon. Picked up a bottle of Auchentoshan double wood in Heathrow earlier this year, and that is fantastic stuff. Shame it's only available at WoW.

Have to say Glenmorangie is one of my favorites when you want something less smoky for a change. Good scotch to start the hobby with. Lately been sipping Glenmorangie 10yo.

I actually like Famous Grouse, it's perfect for average evenings just like this. Except the for the Famous I always keep a bootle of Glenfiddich Ancient reserve(18 YO)/Gran reserva(21 YO) at home. For smokey whiskey I like the Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Addition to these I always try to keep a bootle of "Mackmyra"(swedish distillery) and Chivas Regal at home.

glenmorangie nectar d'or is a favorite of mine. Aged in Sauternes cask it as a sweet kinda taste (not sugary by any means) it's just a thing of beauty. And for my more adventurous night Lagavullin 16 cannot be beat.

My top three: (not in order)
1) Chivaz Regal
2) Johnnie Walker double black
3) Glenfiddich 13 y/o
My favourite liquor store employe always laughs and reminds me how we Arabs love Johnnie walker, since that's what they usually buy at his store.

Glenfiddich - hands down my favorite.

I cannot agree with you more. The 13 year [emoji108].

Wow this is a great thread! I didn't know RWI is a "All things that will kill you or make you broke" forum!! I recently quit drinking (new year's resolution) and so far it's going well. Before that, though, I used to survive on scotch like water.

It's great because everyone has different tastes and preferences. Here are my top 3 personal favorites (with a reasonable price) in reverse order:

3. Macallan 18 - Speyside - $99

(Special Bonus Runner-up: Macallan 10 Cask Strength. This is now discontinued, cost about $75 at the time, and man was it strong DELICIOUS. If you find a bottle, buy it immediately.

2. Glenmorangie 18 - Highland - $99

1. Oban 14 - West Highland - $50 at COSTCO!!

I'm more smooth/sophisticated Highland/Speyside guy. I definitely like to change it up and experience the variety of scotch, but I can't do the Islay scotch as daily drinkers: Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig. Can't handle too much of those smoky peat monsters!

But yea, Oban is my favorite and my daily go-to. The best part was the price, you can find it at costco for around $50. Taste like $200. I had a blind scotch tasting a while back with some of my friends including JW Blue, Mac 15, different Glens 15s, and guess what I chose.

Also, for those who like to gamble in Vegas, i was able to get the cocktail waitress to get me Mac 12 while playing at the tables at Cosmopolitan. I also played for a few min in the high limit room one time and had a glass of Mac 25! I pretty much felt like a winner at that point and quickly left.

You have good prices! the macallan 18 here in Chicago goes for $249 I wish it is $99 and I'll probably stock up a few bottles.

I got some laphroaig 18 on sale for only $65.

I just checked my local store and the price for Mac 18 is now $190! I swear I got a couple bottles for $100 a few years ago...

Enjoy the Laphroaig!

Love my single malts but I also love my blended.
Talking to my boss last year about what drinks we loved, I mentioned how I loved Johnny Walker Blue and what do I get from him for a Christmas bonus?? You guessed it. It's $255 here in Arkansas. Blew me away. He just retired so no such luck next time.

I like blended for a daily dram, just because i couldn't afford to spend $50+ if i drink 1-2 drams a day. For blended i like the black bottle, and monkey shoulder. 2 very different blends, but it does save me lot of $.

I've only been getting into Scotch the last few months, and have been trying a number of different bottles to figure out what I like. I haven't acquired the taste for really peaty scotches yet... So far my favorites are Macallan 10 Fine Oak, Glengoyne 10 Year, and Auchentoshan American Oak. I recently finished this:

Nice! Mac is always good. but just look at that subdial spacing on your speedmaster WOW I LOVE IT. MUST... GET... A... GEN....

Try some Oban 14, it's really one of my favorites and is clean and smooth.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes I sold several reps and custom watches to help pay for this gen Speedy (my first "luxury" brand watch), and boy was it worth it!
