The rep movement A6497 used in reps is actually a true clone of the Unitas 6497, and the accuracy is almost perfect for the 99,99% of people. Only trained (on reps) eyes are able to tell the differences
The reliability is also good enough

ALE
What about all the horror stories you hear that the movements come dirty out of the 'factories'? This is hardly an exception?

No, not at all
They are REP movements with a price many times less than a gen movement
Gen movements are assembled almost like in an operating room whereas reps are assembled ...who knows

Anyway, this problem is not very serious and nothing that cannot be solved by a little service

Thanks for the info. Seller listed the "clone" engined version for 50% extra over the a6497, psh and I almost believed that bs.

Not worried about the dirty surface issues, local watchsmith can easily clean it up for a small price.

What about the noise issue? I read in a different subforum that the manual winding movement gets noisy. Is it really that loud?

So I received my first ever rep (111 noob V3/V4) and I absolutely love it. I was thinking of getting it serviced straight after receiving it. Did a full wind and got a whopping 57:04 hours power reserve.
Considering it keeps excellent time (+5 s/d) and power reserve, is it worth getting it serviced anyway?

Do they come with Water Resistant from the factories or is that a hit and miss? Don't plan to swim with it, but wanted to know if it would survive if I dropped it in the sink by accident

Would service it if its running great, but also depends on the age of the watch. Some watch brands say you need to service a mechanical watch every +- 5 years. My opinion is (as a rookie in the Rep game) that you only need to let a watch be serviced if it isn't functioning properly.

I have also a pam111 and regarding the water resistant I can't give you an answer. But I'm interested in that answer as well.

Well, gen owners where I live are recommended to have their pieces serviced every 2-3 yrs depending on usage frequency. If I end up purchasing a 111 (most likely within a month or so) that's exactly what I'm planning to do: service every 2 yrs, hell every year if needed be, and straight to service right after purchase to clean up the insides and oil the parts.

Accepted these as I am too excited about getting my first ever rep. No idea if it's a V4 case, but it's a beaut altogether.

I had posted separately to see if the dial is incorrect (I'm not sure about the 2 in 12),but nothing I can't live with.

So interesting the subtle differences in fonts on the PAMs. The font on my 510 is so different from the 111. I prefer the first 'fatty look', not so much the stretched 'clean look' on this 111. It looks OK by the way as far as I can ascertain. Those sandwich dials are the best for the sharply defined lume at night, irrespective of font fortunately.

Well, unfortunately this is the standard strap that came with the rep. But I find it quit comfortable, enough so that I can just strap it one hole wider and go to sleep with it (such kick ass lume). Nevertheless I am looking for an upgrade here at www.anchorstraps.nl. Check out strap number 11 very cool.

I had posted a while ago about the one I got. Well it's broken now! I know it's a rep, but for the money I'm deeply disappointed at the reliability.

Crown is V3
Crystal V4
The case is not easy to tell by the pics
Anyway the caseset is not at all a typical V3 and looks clearly better. At least a good transition case between V3 and V4, if not a true V4

thanks ALE, how about the movement do you have any comment on it?

Sent from the RWI mobile app

Movement is A6497-2 with Y-shaped rep Incabloc, short micrometric screw (bad visibility), correct OP engraving...etc . The typical movement fitting a false V4 and current true V4
The dagger doesn't touch the DSwan neck spring (but this is very frequent and it doesn't affect the rest of the movement and its working)

thanks ALE, which is better A6497 or A6497-2? I think my TD exchange the watch in factory after I asked about the scratch I saw on the lugs
