I wish I could say that after the 7 watches above have arrived I'd be done with Daytonas, but...

What a nice collection you got there 😍 mind me asking which factory is that 126519 black dial oysterflex top right?

I just put in an order with Steve for a QF Le Mans 126529. Was very specific about the sunburst and marks on either side of the 24 sub dial. He didn't have one, but sent the pic of the QF one from another customer's QC (probably one of you jokers) and it was correct. I put a deposit down, so we shall see. 🧐 This will be my first rodeo with a Daytona.

With the price of lab grown diamonds seeming to continuously fall, I wonder if it would be " cost viable" to change from Moissanites to lab grown, (same quality, size, cut etc.,) on these builds.

I guess my question is: how much is the identical lab made diamond compared to a Moissanite? i.e. (I'm guessing) a lab grown diamond is (guessing?) 80% more than a Moissanite - AND THEN do you think it looks that much (any?) better, taking into account the extra increase in price (or are they, say, too small on a watch to tell the difference between lab grown and Moissanite to the "naked eye"?)

Just thought this "might" be another factor when making these beautiful builds?

I'm following this. I didnt know Steve was selling Le Mans. Might have to put down a deposit for one as well.

I don't believe it was on the site, but I reached out via WhatsaApp and asked if he could source one. Told me it shouldn't be a problem. While he was replying, he sent me QC pics of another customer's last order for one. All the markings are correct and I thought I could see a little bit of the sunburst on the dial. He told me that if it didn't pass QC, on my end, that he would fully refund me. I also told him to add an OF band to the order. I told him no rush, so we'll see how long this takes.

Hi all!

Over the past 8-12 months I have noticed myself slowly moving away from my relentless (and borderline unhealthy) obsession with continuously buying and selling in the m2m section, after trying a lot of different reps out. Nowadays, my primary interest is sourcing parts and building frankens, more specifically, rare or "off-catalogue" Daytona's. I came to the realisation some time ago that I am in fact a Daytona addict, and despite trying a lot of lovely watches out in the 2 and a bit years I have been a member, I always come back to Daytona's. In fact, I am now at a stage where I actively search for rare Daytona's online, looking at pics and trying to learn more about the references, before seeking the parts to start building.

This imo seems to be the somewhat natural progression of the average rep collector from what I have seen on the forum. The initial stage of rep ownership is reading and investigating every factory, finding out who is the best for specific models, checking with TDs, and consulting with fellow members before carefully selecting specific watches to order. This then progresses to the "seafood diet" stage, that being, you see a rep that you haven't tried, buy it, then sell it a few weeks later to fund more reps (rinse and repeat) until the point where simply buying and selling isn't enough to scratch that itch. Which can now only be scratched by drawn-out builds, searching for parts and seeing a long-term project finally come together.

I have quite a few rare and of-catalogue Daytona frankens being built at the moment and I am intrigued to see what rare/off catalogue builds my fellow members have in their collection, or would like to have built in the not-to-distant future? :)

For reference, here are just a few of the watches I have "in progress" or on my wish list for future projects (diamond set watch haters, look away now 👀):

This is gorgeous, any idea if any TD has it?
No. It would have to be a custom build, custom dial, custom bezel, on a BTF or Clean base, probably will run you around $1.5k+ minimum.

Beautiful! Is it custom? If so, who did the build? Would love to try out a custom build but wouldn’t know where to start.
Look around for a guy called JJ, JJ's Dials from Spain, he can do the dial for you

The base, just pick BTF and Clean

Total probably around $1500?
