I bought one, it has arrived but I'm on a business trip so won't see it until Monday. I'll post some pics when I get home.

Of course many Gens are worth buying

The point being made is not that Gens are not worth buying . It is that there are many Gens which in construction, materials and function are so basic , simple and generic That rep makers are able to make them so well that it really isn't worthwhile buying the Gen of that particular watch

I couldn't agree more. I was one of those guys totally against replicas until I received my first noob Submariner. Completely changed my mind on the entire matter and saved me about $8,000. Now I have the watch and much more money in Investments.

Black Bezel Submariners are not a good as gens but I no longer see the value in the gen after test driving a TC and a Franken 116610. I know the gens are great pieces but had I spent that kind of money I'd have one watch and be bored.

Unless you are using them as a true tool watch a high grade Franken or TC should ease the want a bit and give you a chance to check out other pieces of interest.

I have this one as well, I would agree, this is one where if you can find one of the original noob models, you don't need to buy the gen. I originally bought mine because I wanted the gen, and wanted to try it out. The rep is so good, I decided not to go forward on the gen purchase. Then I bought a gen bracelet for it, and ended up returning that also as it was not that much better for almost double what I paid for the watch...

Is the list in descending order? So is the AP the best Rep and the Zenith the "worst"?

With the exception of the rep's flat vs. embossed dial lettering and logo on the gen, this is as good as it gets. A true super rep contender.

Well, that's the whole point of bronze - with the vagaries of patination, no two bronze watches, gen or rep, will look exactly the same over time.

Is there anyway we could get to change the dial , because the dial looks completely off and sometimes it makes me feel like its a sterile dial unless seen under light or in photos

Just found this thread and I must say it's quite interesting indeed.

It would be good to see an updated list, actually. Is there any? (I confess I skipped all the pages from 7 onwards...). EDIT: Found the list, big thanks!

Hello, Could you tell me where you found the list? :02.47-tranquillity:

i thought the Rolex Seadweller 4000 ceramic Noob also made the list

Perhaps there is another update. It may be somewhere in between the irrelevant interchange about cars or the sophomoric discussion about banking and investment .

lol, yea, I think it is. The only thing holding it back was the glossy dial, but rolex decided to change their dials from matte to glossy to match the reps. There were a bunch of jokes about rolex taking design cues from Noob when they did this.

Yes Rolex's constant propensity for change is food for the OCD Rep buyer. If you leave a good Rep dial as it is for long enough Rolex will match it one day.
