I bought a quartz ap (the one from sead) for 150€ and the quality is amazing with Saphire Crystal etc. No gen homage watch comes near that price. Its a little cheaper in quality than my 15400 Rep but it destroys every other 150€ watch i've ever had. Normally for 150€ you get Mineral Crystal and quartz with a boring design.

It's really a nice piece! In what sense is quality cheaper than the 15400 rep? I'm really curious to know more about this one since it's on my mind for a while already...

Bracelet Finish and Crystal is cheaper and the dial looks not so "shiny" like the expensive one and the tapseries is not that good compared to the expensive one but it only costs 138 Dollars so who cares :D

So what criteria would define a super rep? Could we try to define a list? Is there one?

I don't think there's a criteria any more than there's one for "1:1" or ".9:1".

My definition of a "super rep" would be "a rep that looks good out of the box."

But that might disqualify a bunch of reps of watches that normally come with leather or exotic leather straps, since rep straps are known to be terrible.

So for you, it's only a question of appearance ?

Appearance and function. A rep that looks great but has non-functioning subdials is out.

I agree to that but should we then define the super reps in 2 categories: the super rep that looks like a gen and works properly and then the super super rep that is a good copy on the inside also, with an accurately cloned movement (but are there any of those)?

Agree 100%. For example the new JF Daytona's are quite good but I would choose the 7750 version over the 23J any day simply because of the fake chronos. The thickness not many could pick out and they would have to be a watch enthusiast to even know the thickness of the gen.

The fake chrono's on the other hand when you press it - well anyone who knows the function of a chrono would know immediately - they wouldnt have to be a Rolex guru by any means

Thats just my opinion.

I think consensus among the community's leaders and experts is the best way. Eg ale for pam, godfather for pp, etc. It'd be too hard to do it objectively

I feel like with the SA3135 becoming more stable, at some point it'll be the default Rolex movement so much that we'll look back at the 2824s and 2836s and scoff at how we put up with the bad crown positions. :p
