I have to disagree on the rolex part. @timnic54
Since march I have purchased quite a few rolex reps, and yes at first glance they look very similar, but when you compare a gen rolex to a rep you will notice a few things here and there..
I have never seen a stock noob rolex without the usual factory " flaws ". Misaligned markers, cyclops or DW ( sometimes all together ) and a very dirty movement, although the ones I got keep great time..
Once you hold a Gen Sub-C in your hands, the Noob bracelet will feel VERY bad compared to gen. Sharp edges, shitty clasp and unstable links off wrist.
Now don't get me wrong I love reps and don't take my watch off for no-one lol, but IMHO a Noob V7 is defo no super rep and if 1 can afford I highly suggest to go gen.
I recently got into APs, and unlike rolex I have never owned a AP ROO, but stock, they feel way more authentic than any rolex rep !
Throw in a gen dial, custom DW and tachy and you got yourself a killer AP rep. With rolex you can change dial, dw ,bezel, upgrade to a yuki etc and you will still get called out because of the shitty bracelet..
In the end everybody has to decide for themselves which watch is worth going gen for. Just because the santos is really close to gen doesn't mean that there is no cartier fan who would like his " grail " watch to be gen someday, regardless of how close the rep is to gen.
1 month ago I would have NEVER considered buying a gen ROO, today my mind has changed its up to you if its worth it or not.
I'm probably Parroting myself, but... What the heck.
I have held, in my hand, one rep that I truly would have needed a loupe to tell from a gen, and that's a noob PAM111. I have a BK TW Sub that, coming from someone who is on their 3rd gen sub, is practically impossible for me to tell. I suppose if I threw a gen insert the head would be almost impossible but the band isn't anywhere near as nice as a real band. Now, I have seen TC's new band and if I knew it would fit my BK sub I'd try one of those.
But let's face it, even BK's super quality rep was, what, $600 or whatever I paid for it? A gen is at least $4,800 and that's not going to buy you a mint one either.. more like $5500-6000 for one of those. A noobfactory Sub is what, $300-350? So I think that you've really got to sit back for a second and recognize that you're comparing a $300 chinese fake to a watch that retails new for nearly $10,000. So there's a reason why after a few years of use the gen Submariner has held up a lot better; 904L stainless DOES make a difference but boy are you paying for that.
The reason not to buy a gen SevenFriday has nothing to do with the quality of the rep.I think all the SevenFriday watches should be on this list. Same movements, and most the reps visually are pretty close. They aren't very common so no one would be able to tell anyway.
The reason not to buy a gen SevenFriday has nothing to do with the quality of the rep.

I just sold my Gen 111 this weekend after years of cringing at how close the Noob 111's looked... now looking for a rep 111 :callme:

I find it interesting how perceptions differ. Last week I was holding a gen sub C in one hand and a Noob V7 sub C in the other . Bracelet wise, blindfold, I would have picked the Noob as gen. Granted the gen is a few years old and I have worked the rough edges off the Noob
I have done the same with JF AP Bracelet and the gen was obvious, but not because of the finish but because of greater flexibility.
You did the right thing.
Get the latest Noob v4 PAM 111 "P" serial number (N series is old) with the thin engraved "officine panerai" and Y-incabloc. The rest is literally 1:1
I got mine from a TD weeks ago. Had a friend who own a gen PAM 111. I compared it side by side and i had a hard time finding the difference or flaws.
PAM 111 is a very simple watch. You definitely cant go wrong.
Other then a slightly bigger crown guard that is virtually non visible at one glance or without having the gen side by side, the PAM 111 is definitely a super rep. As for the crown guard, you can always source for the gen one. It cost less then $60 for a used one.
Production cost for Panerai is not high at all.
If a $$100-280 "Marina Militare" Homage of PAM can me made with the exact same quality and feel of its $5000-$8000 counterpart then its definitely something. No wonder Panerai went hard on on Marina Militare for copyright infringement but they only thing they manage to trade mark is the "Reg TM" on the crown guard.
Really for the quality of bracelet rep v7 ?!! All people say than quality rep bracelet v7 is shit ... I'm lost lol!!

Gen movement vs rep noob ? You can't see the difference visually?

Opinions; Everyone has one. The only one that matters is your own.
These kinds of issues always get fudged. The fudging factors are as follows.
People who have never owned a Gen but believe they must be better and thus become over critical of reps
People who have just bought a gen and need to justify the expense
Subjective and emotive terminology used for objective factors.
I have been around gen watches for over 25 years I have owned a huge number of Gen sports Rolex watches and still own three
Take the bracelet of a NOOb V7 and a Gen 116610 and hold them in your hand. If you observe very closely you may detect some very minor differences. But there are probably less than a thousand people on the planet who would know which is which, on you wrist probably less than a hundred.
The rest comes under the heading of mythology . The gen will probably last longer, if you keep it serviced, so it should for the price.

I have never said it does not look close, I am saying it FEELS completely different !
904 steel that ONLY ROLEX uses is way harder to manufacture and the chinese are using a different steel.
And I did and DO own quite a few Gens

No brother
I never said GEN > REPS otherwise I would spend my time on TRF rather than RWI.
Its just I don't see the V7 as a Superrep. I am surprised given your 25 years experience you put them on almost the same level.
