I'm willing to pay you 20% of what I'll pay for my next purchase if you care to teach me how.
In 2010. Those same watches are going for more now.

Talking about investment when buying a watch nowadays is nonsense.
There is a big difference between holding value and going up in value.
Rolex is an exception and only some models became profitable because they were more rare.
Is the 16610 ever going to become rare?
I have been reading about vintage watches. Who could tell at the time which models would become wanted or which would have no interest to anyone?
Yes some watches age well but if you feel good about getting 5000$ in 8 years for the 5000$ you spent today, then you might as well leave all you cash in your current bank account and turn down all incoming calls from your bank advisor who wants to offer you investment opportunities.
When I bought my gen I knew that from the first time I would put it on my wrist I had to be fine with losing 50% of the sale price if I ever needed to get rid of it.
I think reps are more likely to be called invesments.
Let's say some day the rep industry gets shut down big time in China, customs checks are enforced everywhere to the extent that it becomes almost impossible to import a rep etc
What would the price of a submariner V7 be then?
Rwi would remove the non profit selling rule and a lot of people would spend 600 for a sub, rightfully so because they would be rare and hard to get.
You would make at least a 100% profit.

50%.
I'm kidding I just got you wrong. But if you rejected 50 I was going to offer 100 as my final offer.

make it 110 and youve got a deal.
When the economy dips again, I will definitely be buying up watches if I have the means to do so. Spoke with a fellow watch enthusiast the other day that had cash available and bought up everything he could in the last dip. Rolex, AP, etc. then sold once the economy picked back up and made a better return on investment than he would have in the market.
Thinking about it, I will say, if the economy dips, thats when you could probably see Reps going for more than they were new. People will be selling Gens, but want to keep up appearances or just like the look and want to go rep.
I was around in 2010. I was moderator on well known Rolex Forum and very active flipping all kinds of watches.
I do remember the very best deal I had, and I was in a very strong position to get a great deal, I remember it because it was completely exceptional. I bought a used LV for £3200 (At the time $4800) I sold it a few years later to my nephew , who still has it, I actually sold it to hime for what I paid. But the watch today is worth about £4500 ($5850 At today's Over inflated $) Allowing for that fact that it has had a service in the interim and a bit of inflation. That is barely a profit and it is very exceptional. As I said I was around , active and very in touch in 2010. I have to say i didn't see these subs for 2 to 3 K $ They were closer to $5 K. Must have been moving in the wrong circles.
I wasnt a part of the forums back then so I wouldnt know what they were going for on them at that time. But the location I was in, in the industry Im in, people were still getting laid off and selling luxury goods for cheap. Almost every young guy I worked with took advantage and had a Rolex or Omega that they got for cheap.
Even going back through the Watchuseek for sale ads in 2009/2010, you can find a few subs selling in that 2500-3500 range. (Im procrastinating at work...)
And it still holds true that a rep isn't going to go up in value.
damn I was literally just now about to pull the trigger on an omega 300 seamaster black dial V6F + an AP JF diver w/miyota 9015 + a steel AP JF bracelet to go on the diver...would have been under a grand w/EMS shipping and all. but I can't do it, because they are friggin reps! Arrg!!
I'm gonna save my pennys and buy a gen omega 300 seamaster black dial I think. Jomashop has them for right around 4k...
AP's will always be out of my reach. No one would believe it was real anyway lol, even if they did know what AP was
One I have been dissapointed with are many of the Omega reps.
They just do not seem to cut it compared to the gen.
I notice things like measurements off, lettering that is engraved being wrong, etc.
Who cares about "value" when you're only spending $300 on a rep. Lol
Wear it and bin it. It's only $300. I've spent more than that taking a dump in London last week.
true on both points lol. I just remember being so excited about my first Omega rep.And only just $4500 to $12000 less (depending on the model). Discussing fakes! Lol!

It ran great but was way bigger than the gen in size and the engravings looked very cheap.
Other than that I will take as many of those buggers as I can get

However, I would never even think of buying a Hublot Gen, but I do have a rep Hublot BB.
omega - ive owned several omega reps and gens, wouldnt buy the gens after i handled a few reps.
hublot - would never buy the gen or rep, just not my style. have seen both and im just not a fan.
