Probably goes without saying that practically all super-rep PAMs (ALE's guide) ain't worth buying in gen (unless for personal sentimental reasons)

Can you please give me a link to this quide ? Cant find it by my self...
Thank you !

One is gen and one is a v6....you decide.

Hate to be the one to say it...but...They both appear to be reps.
I'm betting most people deferred to the one on the left as being Gen because of the bezel insert paint being brighter...and while the one
On the right has a wider SEL gap than the left...I can clearly see the LEC on the one on the left!

Nice try Jeff! Haha
Amirite ?

What version rep do you have?

Here is latest noob v7 vs gen (thanks to @zaeim). He said it is very close indeed.

Here is your rep vs gen:

I had a noob SD4k and thought it was nothing like gen yet some members say they can't tell it apart from gen....very subjective. Everyone has different standards but for $300 (or whatever), you can't go wrong. I spend more than $300 taking a shit in some places. Lol

Having owned gen Rolex Subs...and such...and correct me please if I am wrong (I've been out of the rep game for some time) currently awaiting my TC LV Extreme V7...the left one seems rep....misaligned Rolex logo at 12 O clock and I see the LEC. Very close indeed.

The Bioguy pic is so poor I'd have thought someone who paid upwards of 10 G's on a watch could also afford a decent camera?
They both look like budget reps based on the (lack of) detail. Hi Res or just bro.

I bought a gen 2016 Hulk brand new...cost almost 9k...Now I'm basically seeing that I'm a fool to have done so?

They make reps in 904 stainless steel with a 50 hour power reserve and a 5 year factory warranty?

I had a DSSD rep, v5 i think...bezel rocked, clasp wouldn't close, stuff was misaligned ever so slightly, the ink on the back started to come off...
A Rolex is supposed to be a statement, a symbol, of perfection.

But here I am just trying to make myself feel better. If I flipped it now I would lose over 2k. Best to keep it I think, but these v7's and this thread are keeping me up at night...

Can anyone give any input that will make me feel better about buying a gen hulk? Now looking at it all I should have gotten a BLNR since they still don't have good reps....but in the AD the BLNR was like: "black dial...blah...blue on the bezel is cool...but they want that much more $ for that over the normal GMT?...the GMT function...will never use it...oh it's only 1/3rd as water proof as the sub...and lighter...no glidelock...derp.." ...and I went with the hulk.

someone help though lol I feel like an idiot

No point feeling anything bad, what is done is done. You have your gen Hulk its a great watch.

When I had a gen hulk I hardly ever wore it, but that is just because I discovered I don't like green.

The V7 LN AS3135 rocks. I love mine, no mods straight out of the box. The deepest I will ever go is about 2 meters in my pool, and they will all do that. Wait for the new GMT coming soon with CHS and correct jumping hour then buy that .

Meanwhile here is the V7 LN and this is my 500th post

sigh....not making me feel any better

I love the green on my hulk, color isn't the problem. The extra 8k is the problem for gen vs rep...

I haven't held the v7 in my hands. I'm sure it's great. Oh well, like you say, what's done is done. This will be in my family for generations hopefully.

some pics of my gen. I have to tell having had both the rep dssd and this gen sub in my hands. There was a marked upgrade in precision and craftsmanship between the rep and this. I gave my watch-ignorant fiance the two and she could tell right away. Right down to the bracelet links. From over 3 ft away you are fooling everyone. From in-hand..no comparison.

These pics were taken when first bought. I would have you notice if you haven't already: the rehaut crown engraving being about 1/4 mm off kilter from the 12 oclock. I noticed this after buying, and brought it back. The AD was able to adjust the dial position to make it all aligned. It's all perfect now, even the crown logo when screwed in lines up exactly.

Just feel great because it looks phenomenal - of course, it´s a gen - and an excellent choice. Rolex is the brand that is a:) easy to sell b.) keeps the value. In 2 years time it´s worth what You paid for it, later on You´ll get a lot more than nowadays for a banc deposit of that amount. Once the gen is "out of the system", just spend the next 8k on reps - not at once, little by little and You´ll preserve them all. Once You have several, each will just get a little bit of use instead of a lot. That way they go a long way looking good:)

thanks for the tip. Yeah I'm all tapped out on gen watch budgets for a long time now...I am about to buy a seamaster 300 rep I think...http://puretime02.com/seamaster-300...on-on-ss-bracelet-a8400-free-nylon-strap.html

I had the spectre version before and hated the stuttering second hand inherent with this movement. But it seems less noticeable with the non-spectre "normal" edition of this watch.

any opinion on whether to go for black or blue dial appreciated. Torn, though leaning on black.

The v7 rep is amazing but there are plenty of Rolex fans here who will NOT wear the rep OTB.

Many hardcore Rolex fans here would argue that the v7 requires a gen crystal (most would agree), gen insert (not cheap), gen hands (rep hands not as 3D as gen) and a complete re-lume (factory lume is bright white - looks ugly- should be slightly off white with a sheen).

The differences between gen and rep are so subtle that many would argue that it's no point buying gen .....

but for me the differences (on this model) are sufficient to make the rep look a little uglier to my eyes (I'm a massive sub fan)

For a modern ceramic submariner - I say buy gen. For everything else - buy rep (IMO).
