I don't know of any Daytona which could be a candidate . AFAIK no-one has made a Daytona rep which isn't either much too fat or has non working chronos.

Hand stack plus that the movement functions differently. Don't think the rep GMT is ready to replace a Gen yet.

I don't think many rep watches are to be honest- maybe the blackbay which has been mentioned previously. Im being biased i think as the GMTc its my latest pick up. The hand stack does bother me even though I wish it didn't [emoji85]

I do have own noob superocean abyss (non chrono) purchased from Tony last year. That has definitely got to be worth a shout? Super rep 100% [emoji1360]

Great thread guys but I can't believe that in 30 pages no one mentioned BP Sea-Dweller. I would also add ZF Bell & Ross 03-92, it has a bit wider bezel but when you put it on the wrist it isn't noticeable at all.

THE only watches worth buying Gen are the ones that mean something to you, and also not by the big brands, I mean Rolex etc, I mean the companies that are really watchmakers

I would never get a rep JLC

I'd argue that a good rep of any watch is a great way to do a long-term test drive of appearance, sizing, etc.

That being said, I can't wait to get a gen JLC one day! Yours is a beauty!

No mention of pam 164 noob? Or have I missed it..

Probably goes without saying that practically all super-rep PAMs (ALE's guide) ain't worth buying in gen (unless for personal sentimental reasons)

I agree with the concept expressed by timenic54 ,

I also own.sone expensive gen and today after buy some super rep I believe that the purchases I made in the were mistakes

I do not care if nn I can go diving with replicas , .the point is that I would not have made ??diving with a gen of 10,000 euro on the whirst the same !

I agree. Watches with high levels of complication, watches with very high levels of movement finish, or particular movement design, and IMO anything made of precious metal . Pretty much everything else is game, and so it should be , if people will offer us $500 worth of watch for $10,000, they can expect it to be copied.

Here's 3 of my watches you will never see in rep;

No one will replicate this function

No one will make this movement nor plate a watch to look and feel like solid platinum

No one will rep this fully independent dual time movement

Thanks Tim for starting this thread. My brother Crazy Paneristi insisted I must read this thread for all the great information and feedback. There were some entertaining comments :) I'm very very close to buying a gen Blancpain FF, but after reading...maybe I'll just save the money and check out Phukett :) and still have the FF on my wrist while on vacation :)

I think buying reps where the gen is powered by an ETA is a good investment. Reps are getting better and better aesthetically to the point where the movement basically gives it away. Now if you buy a rep where the gen is ETA based, just pop in a gen ETA, get a gen rotor, have it relumed and you are pretty much good to go. We'll sometimes you'd have to get a new set of hands that fit the gen movement but even that is often not necessary.

How about pam292? Looks pretty close with the gen

Lume is a bit lacking on the 292 rep. Also the case cracks easily and lugs aren't fitted too good. I had to glue mine on . Just make sure you wear it gently [emoji6]

Well, this have been a very informative and entertaining read. Thanks to [MENTION=121094]timnic54[/MENTION] for starting such an interesting (and controversial) topic.

I was on the gen game back when I could afford them. Didn't even looked at reps since thought they all were Canal St. quality. Now that my situation has changed and can no longer afford gens, and after understanding that there are so many different shades of reps, it is a complete new ball game.

I believe that the spirit of this thread is to determine if the price difference on some gens vs. it's respective rep cousins is substantial or not. It's a more bang for the buck kind of thing.

I've said this before and will say it again, with unlimited resources (good old cash), I'd go gen no doubt. But with limited resources, the rep game is worth considering - being a $1,000 vs. $100 Sevenfriday, a $10,000 vs. a $500 PAM, or a $25,000 vs. $1,000 AP.

I don't have much technical experience on the nitty gritty of the trade, but following all the respected and experienced members here, it's a fools quest not to at least grasp the point being stated here.

I'm just soooo thankful that I discovered this board and I'm able to enjoy timepieces that otherwise would have been impossible, given my situation right now. And with this handy compilation, the next rep buy just got a bit easier! Now to choose which one?

In any case, to each his/her own! Live and let live I guess! Being gen, rep or Franken, enjoy in good health!

Cheers!
