By lifting up the mainspring on this new rep IWC PR movement, the design puts alot of strain on the escapement. This will result in reduced lifespan.

Just ordered a ZF Laureus but it has the closed case back, so no issue about the decorated movement!

Does anyone's 5001 randomly stop for a few minutes then run again :(?
I've noticed it stopping a few times for about 5-10 minutes

... i would rather have them upgrade the movement, so that it works more than 14 days. ;)

Power reserve tested mine: 74.5 hours.
It initially stopped at 70ish when date change started. I just picked it up and it restarted. It went past date change and died. Nothing left at all.

So it is not the 5 days as we have seen on a few places but it still has a working PR with a power reserve higher than regular movements.

Another member raised the potential reliability issue of the escape lever due to the higher spring tension it deals with. I am now debating between the two following utilization modes:

1 - try to keep powere reserve level below 6 days to avoid creep in spring tension. Usually a typical day at the office is not enough to fully wind it.

2 - pull on the crown to stop movement when removing at night. Been using this method on my 3714 for 2 years now with success... or maybe luck. This method reduces the running time from 40-50 hours each time you wear it to 10-12 hours (just the time it is on your wrist). Extending life by 4-5 times.

These two methods are assuming the watch is part of a rotation pool where the watch down time allows (or would allow) for for complete discharge.

Well, I really second the demand for making the movement more reliable instead of fiddling around with the decoration. My watches are either on the wrist or in the winder, I just hate it having to set the time before wearing them.

I'm not sure about the escape lever wear theory. The mainspring in this is a lot larger and simply has more coils to store additional energy, and then takes longer to fully unwind but not necessarily at a stronger rate than a lower power reserve mainspring might. So I would be surprised at any premature wear on the pallet stones but only time will tell. It will take years to wear anyway IMO.

^ Are the sub dials correct on these? They look a little flat and not sure about the shade of red. Can the experts confirm?
