Before saying that the mouvement is shitty, we should wait to have more feedback. if we have only 2 on 1000 that are dead, it is not that bad. I'm sorry for you T222. Better send it back to your TD, if it is something broken inside even if he is a skilled watchsmith he won't have the pieces to repair.
Regarding Asian, my watchsmith said the same with a rep powered by an A2824 that work perfectly since almost 2 years. But he also said that the new Breitling work like shit too compare to the good old one when he serviced my old Navitimer 806.

Well, I was about to place an order. This (and the dead movement cases) changes everything!
You should buy quartz watches if you want to be sure that it will work.

Sounds reasonable to me, same here. The rep movements are pretty crappy anyway, but this one seems to be even worse.
My first rep with automatic movement dates from 2009. Never got serviced and still working fine. I would not call that crappy. We'll have to wait and see if this movement has a problem in general or it's a few samples.

^ Send it back via EMS. It will cost you about $25-50 depending on country and you will receive a working watch back. Service local he wont do it for $50 thats for sure. Plus its an opportunity for the movement makers to see whats broken and what improvements can be made.

Depending on your country, you may well have no option to send via EMS at all. ;)
Plus it can take ages to get the watch back plus you have customs risk again - twice. I'd always (and always have) rely on my local watch-smith.

Yes, quartz are absolutely reliable. Glad that you have learnt that from here and can give that advice. Greatly appreciated. :)

Quartz is much cheaper and much more reliable in each and every regard. You can even have an rc-watch and never ever even have a few seconds running wrong. Just that watch enthusiasts would never put a quartz movement in a watch which does not have one as a gen.

I was trying to be sarcastic to Azel21. Guess it was too subtle.

Does anyone's 5001 start to change date from 10:30 pm? It's a bit annoying looking at the date 'half today and half tomorrow'. at some points, it looks like the date is "4 1".

I'm sure I read that in here a while back. I don't think it flips at midnight like other watches. It starts around the 10.30 mark

Obviously I was too stupid to get that, so just take my posting as a subtle sarcastic confirmation of yours. ;)
These cases pertaining to DOA and dead watches after 2 weeks (plus a few guys seeing scraps on their dial and dust on the hands) just make me think really hard on pulling the trigger on this. In the first place, the movement seems to be a mixture of 2 different movements put together. And then you just wonder why would a watch die on you just after 2 weeks? It works well for 2 weeks and then it just dies? Anyway, I still like the watch but I guess I will have to wait and see. Just have to get another watch (probably the AP 15400)....

On another note, I haven't ordered a Vietnam strap yet to have to compare to say Orloff, but I have one of his money clip wallets, here it is with my RG Ardoise

How good is orloff ? I'm very tempted to pick one up but I have a Vietnam on the way (was shipped last week) so don't know how good that will be. Never had a non-rep strap so I have nothing to compare Vietnam to per se

I have straps from a few makers, most are Orloff, so I'd say they are fantastic quality and smell great :)
